Small computers are nothing fresh, however, a younger breed of tiny PCs pushes the envelope far further. The ECS LIVA Q1D nano PC is the newest in a line of ultra-compact Window frames Computers that use notebook computers components to provide productivity in the curve of your hands. Now this, on the other hand, has a characteristic that sets it different from the chasing pack.
Availability and Selling Prices
We tried the ECS LIVA Q1D, which arrived with such a Pentium N4200 processor and Windows 10 Pro for $199.99 on Amazon. There is indeed a version with a significantly shorter Celeron N3350 CPU for a little less, but we highly urge everyone to shun it.
Design
When compared to its peers, the LIVA Q1D stands out. It’s a 74 by 74 by 34micrometres package that mixes two uncommon hues (dark blue & champagne gold) with such metal and plastic exterior; a much more standard black variant is also offered.
There are a lot of air holes all over the place to help with ventilation, and indeed the base has four rubber legs and bolt slots for attaching a VESA bracket. 3 USB connections (one being USB 2.0), one HDMI connection, each memory card, a Gigabit Ethernet connector, and, last but again not least, a comprehensive DisplayPort plug round out the remainder of the features. \
Thus that little Computer can theoretically run two 4K displays; if its visuals are strong enough to make that assumption is unknown.
Hardware
A modest 24W (12v,2a) power source supplies everything. It misses a Type-C port and a headset jack when compared to its peers.
The adoption of the nano/ultra smaller version sleek design brings with a slew of issues, the most serious of which being power dissipation. It’s why ECS chose the Intel Pentium N4200, a quad-core, 4×4 CPU with 2Megabit buffer and an Intel HD Vision 505 GPU, as its reduced CPU.
Notwithstanding the other’s 6W energy dissipation, whether it’s a Celeron N4120 or a Celeron J4125 provides better peak speed, double the memory, and overall improved results, which is unsurprising considering that they were released three years later & gained from advances in technology.
Performance and in Use
Because of the Q1D’s heteroclite collection of parts, it fared marginally poorer than a modern J4115/N4120-based device. This is exacerbated by the usage of only 4Gb of Storage and a sluggish eMMC, to just not talk about the fact that now the storage capacity is limited to 64Gigabytes. Windows 10 Pro, with all the bells and whistles, eats up a lot of that, and efficiency suffers as the number of available space shrinks.
We attempted to remove the foundation to view what was in there, but our endeavor failed terribly. For whatever odd, the last bolt appears to be jammed helplessly. Due to the obvious fan, the Q1D could be a little noisy under stress; this was especially obvious while using Sandra Software.Â
The Competition
The ChuwiLarkbox, the GMK NucBox, or the XCY Portable Mini Computer are 3 rivals to the LIVA Q1D on the marketplace. Neither one of them run Windows 10 Professional and is capable of driving 2 4K displays.
If you just want anything comparable, the Larkbox with 6Gb of storage and 128Gigabytes of eMMC memory (stretchable to 256Gigabytes through an SSD port) is the lowest at AliExpress, costing just under $180. At $244, XCY provides a limited sluggish portable Computer with 8Gb Internal storage and a real 128Gigabyte SSD. Last but just not distant, the GMK NucBox is by far the most capable of the bunch, powered by an Intel J4125 CPU and featuring up to 512Gigabyte SSD storage.
The Mele PCG02 is an excellent pick; this has a unique sleek design (it’s a computational drive), and it can handle 2 4K displays, works with Windows 10 Pro, has had an acoustic connector, twice the RAM and capacity (although eMMC), and is powered by a considerably faster J4125 CPU. Much more remarkable is the fact that it costs significantly less ($216) and therefore is supplied by a 5V3A power source with a Type-C connector that attaches to the enclosure. To put it another way, you ought to be capable of charging it with a contemporary phone adapter.
The ChuwiLarkbox or the XCY Portable Mini PC is 3 rivals towards the LIVA Q1D on the sale. Neither of them has Windows 10 Pro installed, yet none of them seem to be capable of driving.
