Instagram is reportedly testing new ways to help users make engaging reels clips for their streams. As the company competes against the increasing risk of TikTok’s threat, it has also started testing a new option to boost Reels in the user’s main feed. Instagram is conducting trials of its new Templates with a few Reel creators. It allows users to make a copy of the format of a Reel clip that they have found in their content.
Alessandro Paluzzi, an app researcher, shared one example of creating such reels using the template. The Template process enabled him to pick any Reels clip as a template, which then created a structure of clips to match the time beats of that particular Reel.
The Template process allows you to place your clips in these frame makers so that you can essentially replicate the format of the clip. Using other clips enables you to observe a creative inspiration, which can be a simple way to enhance your Reels clips’ timing.
It could be a simple option for those to create better content who face trouble with new ideas or do not find their uploads as cool as they see in the app. Some experts show concerns regarding this option because it will promote plagiarism of other users’ ideas.
Another creator shared his experience of using the new Template process for Reels on Twitter, highlighting many Reels within a single frame. Instagram users can then choose any Reels thumbnail to move to the Reels feed. Instead, you can click on the Watch Reels at the bottom of the screen. It is another way for Instagram to bend into the new trend of short-form videos, which has made its way into promoting new products.
Since Instagram has chosen to compete against TikTok, it does not hesitate to let the impression of plagiarism go viral. The Chinese-owned dancing app uses remixing of the content as the primary engagement element, and the same is available in Instagram Reels. So as long as you are not copying the same-to-same idea or credit to the original content, it might be fine morally.
However, it does not look perfectly aligned when Instagram says it promotes original content. The app also introduced a new algorithm to encourage original content creators in the best possible way.
While recreating a variation of another clip does not mean copying, it is still deemed as taking someone else’s ideas.
Instagram confirms that it is currently testing the new Template process with a few creators. Also, it is trying out another option to increase users’ interest in Reels. Therefore, it has introduced new full-screen tabs for Reels in its primary feed.
Adam Mosseri, the Chief Instagram, had already said in late 2021, the coming year would see videos a key focus for the app, with Reels being the primary aspect. The company increased its focus on video and combined its entire video formats around Reels. Ultimately, their latest step could be this new-level format, incorporating S, Reels, and feed posts. The company pays more attention to its video elements and presents everything in a full-screen window to make your information more engaging.
