Sony has launched several noise-canceling headphones in the past few years. Its new headgears, WH-1000XM4, have taken the world by storm since their release in 2020. But it seems like Sony wants to go beyond the voice-canceling options in its headphone. It is reportedly gearing up to launch the next generation of the abovementioned headgears.
TechnikNews, a German tech news website, posted that the successor of WH-1000XM4 will comprise a life-long battery compared to the previous headgears model. The tech news site published specifications of the new model, and a few images of the model called it the WH-1000XM5.
Another feature that will stand out from the new model from the previous one is its new sleek design with a thinner headband. Sony kept its 1000M3s and 1000XM4s almost the same, but it aims to modify things, especially how the new model will look.
Unlike the WH-1000M4S, which had a shrouded arm with the capacity to swivel, the successor has an exposed arm. It has a single contact point to replace the previous model’s crux over the earbuds. It will modify the look of the ear cups and have a bit more space to avoid the stuff that may affect hearing quality. The arms in the new design are sleek and slim. They contribute to a lightweight design without compromising the durability and strength of the headgears.
Some tech news sites highlight filings for some regulators, such as the FCC, which confirmed the arrival of a new model in early February this year. The new model has a new placement for the FCC labeling is now underneath the earpad instead of the headband. The change made some blogs speculate that the new model uses metal instead of plastic as a material.
Some images of the leaked model design in their carrying cases suggest a headgear design, which eliminates the collapsible folding of the predecessor model that put one cup inside the other. It remains doubtful whether or not these headgears will have to take up more space on a stand, desk, or in your shoulder bag.
The WH-1000XM5 will have a battery life of up to 40 hours life, 10 hours longer than its predecessor, with a 3.5 hour charging time with USB-C. The headgears will have active noise cancellation or ANC with two processors instead of one. It will have a new driver to produce sound, with the same three microphones to catch your voice or detect noise to stop it in a diverse position.
The new model has the Custom button in the same place as before, though it comes marked as NC/Ambient this time. The Custom button will reflect what users do with it, rather than using integrated voice assistants. The WH-1000XM4 iterated on 1000XM3 with Speak to Chat feature, which quiets the music if it hears you speaking to someone.
The multipoint Bluetooth audio stayed connected to several devices simultaneously. This feature had some initial glitches, but new software updates fixed them well. Sony hasn’t said work on the pricing of the WH-1000XM5, though the previous model launched at $349.99, and Amazon has maintained the price so far. The costs for Sony headphones have dropped during sales, though it is vague if the new changes in a model may modify the cost or not.
