Overview
The Razer Kaira is positioned squarely in the brand’s current PS5 lineup. Sandwiched between the low-cost $59.99 / £59.99 Kaira X and the high-end $199.99 / £199.99 Kaira Pro. But, at $99.99 / £99.99, what are you getting out of ramping up from the cheaper version, and is it worth it to drop down from such a lofty $200 price tag?
With a spec sheet that looks almost identical to the $40 cheaper X model (aside from cordless capabilities), we put the Razer Kaira for PlayStation through its paces to see where it ranks among the best gaming headphones and should it be regarded as the best PS5 headsets on the market.
Design
The same plastic layout as the Kaira Pro and X is used here, with the classic PS5 aesthetic trying to run all around. The level of finish here impressed me, with a strong, rigid plastic husk covered in a premium-feeling matte finish. The console’s crisp white is carried by the exterior headband and primary hinges, with black cups and ear cushions having to run somewhere under the headband. All of this is accented by blue Razer emblems on each side and blue cloth from the inside of each cup.
The Razer Kaira foregoes the leatherette surface of the Pro model in favor of a flowknit protective coating over it’s own memory foam cushions, providing a lightweight and snug fit with plenty of ventilation. The headset provides a secure fit, but I found it a little too tight during longer sessions. The cushioning along the set’s centre feels too thin to conveniently pad past the 3 thresholds.
Main Features
The Razer Kaira is a gaming headset that can link up to your PlayStation via its USB-C dongle or to other Bluetooth-enabled devices. Razer has also included its SmartSwitch tech, which allows you to pair your mobile and PS5 at the very same moment to take a phone call and then switch back to playing audio. In practise, this function worked flawlessly, trying to send calls directly through and selecting up right in which it left off. Of course, if you don’t want to be interrupted, you can configure the Kaira to only link via the 2.4GHz dongle.
This is where the money is spent on the India . the gadget comes in handy. Because the X model is wired only, you lose not only the freedom provided by a wirelessly connect link, but also other characteristics such as SmartSwitch. It was not expected to be as thankful for this life quality enhancement as I was, so the higher price is well worth it.
This SmartSwitch button is on the right cup, next to a game/chat balance wheel, and is reflected on the left by a volume wheel, mic mute switch, and power button. A non-detachable high sensitivity microphone is also included – focus on the non-detachable.
Buy it or Not?
The Razer Kaira has been designed for the bulk of people looking to invest in a nice but not overly expensive set of cups for their PS5. It is priced at $99.99. If you can live without the wireless connection, there’s not much else that distinguishes this set from of the $59.99 Kaira X model. Anyone concerned about breaking the $100 barrier who does not require the 2.4GHz or Bluetooth link will find this same cheaper version to be much cost-effective and efficient.
