Just a year after its predecessor hit the shelves, the Alienware AW3423DWF also made its debut. This gaming monitor delivers excellent gaming performance and stunning pictures, but has skipped out on the G-Sync Ultimate and has reduced its price tag by $200. The QD-OLED ultrawide monitor is available for $1,099 and is one of the best ones available for gaming.
Design and Features
34-inch ultrawide gaming monitors may have become the norm, but the AW3423DWF shows how to do it right with its modest curve and excellent finish. Plus, when you turn it on and the QD-OLED display comes to life, it really feels like a gaming monitor of the future. Boasting a 3440 x 1440 (2K) resolution, it has a refresh rate of 165Hz, which means that response time is truly excellent.
The screen is also great, as it is bright enough when you need it and deep and inky when you need it black. This particular gaming monitor is all about picture quality and speed and its OLED panel allow it to achieve these goals. The AW3423DWF offers one of the best pictures that you can find in a gaming monitor these days. Rather than using built-in backlight like traditional gaming monitors, this one has self-emissive pixels that are controlled independently.
The G-Sync Ultimate module has been replaced with the FreeSyncPremium Pro certification from AMD, which may seem like a downgrade, but it really isn’t because the AW3423DWF has a fast OLED panel. One change that might not sit well with users is that the HDMI 2.0 port has been swapped for another DisplayPort 1.4, which means there are a total of three video inputs. You also get USB connectivity, as the bottom edge of the monitor has two USB 3.2 Type-A ports and there is also a headphone jack.
There are two additional USB ports that you will find in the rear panel and a Type-B upstream port that you can use for connecting the monitor to your PC. There is also an audio line-out port. The lack of an HDMI 2.1 may not sit well for some, given that the monitor costs $1,099. But, given the exquisite display and outstanding gaming and picture performance, it seems like nitpicking.
Performance
There is no doubt that AW3423DWF is prettier than its predecessor and the best part is that it does not compromise on performance either. Similar to the previous one, this gaming monitor is just outstanding and can help you have a top-tier gaming experience. Even with the OLED panel, the monitor is very productive. You do not have to worry about ghosting, which is common in LCF monitors. It also offers good color coverage and the picture quality is downright gorgeous.
The Verdict
While the price tag does not make the monitor cheap, it is apparent that the AlienwareAW3423DWFcan offer excellent value as opposed to the original. You get stunning picture and it is not possible to get a high-end display and such outstanding performance at this price tag.
