Twitter has been in chaos since Elon Musk took over the company in October 2022. Despite all the disarrays, it has recently introduced a new feature, allowing users to search company stocks and digital currency prices.
Searching for these prices requires users to write the dollar symbol and the relevant ticker symbol, such as $ETH or $GOOG, in Twitter’s search bar. While this feature may work without the $sign, it does not always show your desired cryptocurrency or stock prices.
The feature displays a static image with the recent stock prices and a graph without any data regarding the X and Y axis. It is presumably a price chart, which displays the closing prices, though it is still vague. If you want more details about a cryptocurrency or stock, press the button titled View on Robinhood on the page.
Is Twitter Sourcing the Data from TradingView or Robinhood?
Twitter sources the information from a website – TradingView, Jane Manchun Wong, an app researcher, claimed. She said the logo on the image displayed as the results indicate its source. The social media platform has not commented if it has formed a commercial partnership with TradingView or Robinhood to display prices for stock and cryptocurrency.
Twitter also did not state the symbols included in the listing to help users directly search for stock prices. Some companies stock prices did not appear in the Twitter search, including $ZM (Zoom). The company intends to add better symbol compatibility to refine the user experience.
Twitter Faces a Chaotic Situation
As mentioned earlier, Musk’s arrival at Twitter has been chaotic for many things. The social media platform rolled out and rolled back a few policies in the past few months. Recently, it rolled back a policy related to blocked links and handling of other social networks like Instagram the same week of the announcement. Likewise, Twitter introduced the Blue Business plan allowing companies to identify their affiliated firms and workforce with an additional badge.
In another place, the Tesla owner ran a poll on Twitter asking users if he should stand down as the boss –and more than 56% of users voted “Yes”. Later, Musk tweeted, saying he would resign as soon as he found someone foolish enough to replace him. He would run teams running software and servers after that.
Defending his drastic cost-cutting tricks and revamping the paid plan at Twitter, Musk said the company would run into negative cash flow in the coming year if it does not go for these measures.
Twitter to Display the number of views on Your Tweets
Twitter has rolled out a View Count feature that displays the number of people who have viewed your post on the platform. It is similar to features on other online platforms like YouTube or Facebook that show the number of views on videos. Musk says View Count will indicate Twitter is much more alive than it may seem as more than 90% of users read a tweet, though they do not like or reply to it or do not tweet.
