The Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED is an update of the company’s Fire TV Omni that had been a tad underwhelming. This one also uses the Amazon Fire TV smart TV platform that boasts a number of features and has a powerful interface. It is available in 65-inch and 75-inch models, which are priced at $799.99 and $1099.99, respectively and they only differ in terms of screen size and not in features for the most part.
The design
Similar to most of the high-end TVs currently available, the Fire TV Omni QLED also appears to have an understated style. There is a quarter-inch of a bezel in gunmetal gray on the top and sides for framing the screen and the bottom edge has a ¾ inch brushed metallic strip. The lower bezel also has a black protrusion that has the mic mute switch and far-field microphones.
There are two V-shaped metal legs that support the TV close to the sides. VESA mounts are also supported. The left side of the rear panel of the TV has a port for connecting the power cable. The remaining ports can be found on the right side, which include an Ethernet port, a USB port, a 3.5mm headphone output, four HDMI ports, an antenna/cable connector, a 3.5mm port for the infrared blaster and an optical audio output.
The remote
The Fire TV Omni QLED has the same remote as the one offered with Fire TV cube. The wand is thin and black and the top has a circular navigation pad. Above the navigation pad is where you will find a pinhole microphone, Alexa button and the power button. Playback and menu controls are below the pad and channel and volume rockers are farther down. The bottom of the remote also has dedicated buttons for Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Netflix.
Fire TV
As mentioned, the smart TV platform is used by the Fire TV Omni QLED, which means that it functions like a Fire TV cube. Most major streaming services are supported by the interface and these also include Apple TV, HBO Max, Sling, Crunchyroll, YouTube and Twitch. Amazon Music is also supported and other third-party services can also be used for music, such as Spotify and SiriusXM. Amazon Luna also supports gaming.
You can also use the Alexa voice assistant, which allows you to give hands-free commands. The TV will act when you say ‘Alexa’ and issue a command. It can be used for opening apps and searching content. Plus, it also provides useful information like sports scores and weather forecasts
Other features
The Fire TV Omni QLED is a 4K TV that has a 60Hz refresh rate and offers support for high dynamic range (HDR) content in HDR10, Dolby Vision, hybrid log gamma (HLG) and HDR10+. The colors are bright and accurate and you will find that SDR colors seem to be nearly perfect. It delivers an excellent performance where color is concerned and is significantly better than its predecessor. As a matter of fact, the contrast is also quite appealing because it seems natural and balanced.
The Verdict
The Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED has managed to resolve most of the issues that people had with its predecessor, which makes it an affordable option for Alexa fans.
