Coros introduced the Apex Pro a year after the launch of the original and gave it some updates, including navigation and mapping skills, a bigger case and an optical pulse oximeter. The Apex 2 Pro was then launched in 2022 and promises a number of upgrades over its predecessor, including an ECG sensor, a better battery life and a dual-band GPS chipset. Is it a good sports watch? Let’s find out.
Design and build
As compared to the first Apex Pro, the size of the Coros Apex 2 Pro is smaller and it boasts a 46mm case. Likewise, rather than aluminum, it uses titanium alloy and gives you the choice of silicone or nylon watch straps. A Grade 5 titanium has been used for making the bezel, same as the previous one, but it comes with a PVD coating that enhances protection.
There is also a slight increase in weight and the Apex 2 Pro is also a bit thicker than the older one, but it is still very comfortable to wear. It has an always-on transflective display that has a bigger 1.3 inch 260 x 260 resolution. The Sapphire glass used on it provides decent all-round visibility and is a touchscreen display that will emit haptic vibrations when interacted with.
The Apex 2 Pro is also able to operate in most extreme hot and cold conditions and has a 5ATM water resistant certification, which means it can be submerged in waters of about 50 meters.
Health and Fitness tracking
When it comes to sports and activity tracking, there are useful features, but this depends on how active you are. It includes numerous sports modes, such as hiking, running, indoor and outdoor cycling, mountain climbing, pool and open water swimming and skiing. All Coros watches also have a triathlon mode as well. An option of multi-pitch climbs has also been added to the Apex Pro 2.
The dual frequency, all-satellite chipset is also an addition that promises to deliver greater accuracy in terms of positioning data, particularly in difficult areas like tracking close to tall buildings. The electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor is also a big feature added to the Apex Pro 2 that tells you the recovery of your body from stress. This feature is aimed at those who are focused on training.
Smartwatch features
You can also use the Apex Pro 2 as a smartwatch, as the Coros app can be downloaded on both Android and iOS devices and it also offers support for different third-party apps. But, you should note that it cannot deliver the smartwatch experience that you would get from a Samsung Galaxy Watch, or an Apple Watch. It can be used for setting alarms, viewing notifications and the watch face can also be customized.
Battery life
The Apex Pro 2 comes with 30 days of battery life, but there are more GPS battery modes that you can explore. The kind of daily battery life you will have in daily use will depend on the type of use and the GPS mode that you are using. It also boasts a battery usage feature that gives you an estimate of the daily use left, the number of days since you last charged and other details.
The Verdict
You will find the Coros Apex Pro 2 to be a dependable sports watch, which proves to be an excellent training companion.
