If you are looking for a drone, you are definitely going to come across the option of DJI Mini 3 that offers you a more affordable package, as it incorporates the airframe and camera that is offered in the Mini 3 Pro. It does drop some features to settle for an affordable price, but despite the limitations, it is certainly a strong option when you are not willing to spend a lot.
A lightweight airframe
The DJI’s Mini series had been developed to make weight from the beginning because flying a drone that weighs 249g or less comes with a lot less restrictions, as opposed to flying heavier UAVs. While the regulations are different for every region, the 249g drone comes with fewer restrictions in most of them.
The best part about the Mini 3 is not just that it is lightweight, but also that it has a compact size. When folded, the drone is just 2.4 x 3.5 x 5.7 inches, which means it can slide easily into your camera bag because it is the same size as a 24-70mm lens.
The camera
Similar to the Mini 2, there camera mounted on the nose offers support for 4K30 video. It has the Quad Bayer camera that allows you to take 12MP stills and has a 24mm f/1.7 lens. It comes with support for 9:16 vertical video, 16:9 landscape, clip-on ND filters and plenty of upward tilt. You can take it 60 degrees upwards and down to -90 degrees.
Remote and Battery
You can find the drone available in various configurations. It is available without a remote, as it will cost you less than $500. But, if you are ready to pay $559, you can get the drone as well as the DJI RC-N1, which has to be connected to an iOS and Android smartphone for you to see through the Mini 3’s camera.
You can buy the Mini 3 and the DJI RC bundle for $699 and it will not need to be connected to the phone because it comes with a built-in touchscreen as well as a flight control app. It is a 5.5 inch screen and is a sensible purchase if you do not have a very good smartphone.
You can also take a look at the battery bundles. The Mini 3 comes with an Intelligent Flight Battery, which is extremely lightweight and gives you flight time of about 38 minutes. You can go for the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, which helps you boost the flight time to 51 minutes, but it adds to the weight, so there may be some formalities to deal with.
Other specs
DJI Fly is the control app for the Mini 3, whether you run it on the DJI RC, or your smartphone. You will be able to see the view of the camera and it comes with a touch interface for accessing various flight modes, adjusting the settings and configuring the numerous safety features. You can check the telemetry data and benefit from the geofence system called FlySafe.
The Verdict
The DJI Mini 3 is a small and lightweight drone that has a great 4K30 video camera for shooting vertical and landscape video and a battery life of almost 40 minutes. This makes it a good option for newbies and dedicated creators alike.
