WhatsApp keeps adding new features for its users. It has recently announced the rollout of new features for iOS devices, including picture-in-picture, which will allow users to enjoy real-time video calls. Additional features, such as captions with documents, will also be a part of the updated WhatsApp for iOS devices.
Media reports confirm the release of WhatsApp’s update in the coming days. The new feature will let iOS users benefit from multitasking on their smartphone while busy on a video call.
Picture-in-Picture Support for iPhones
The new update refers to the feature already available for android devices. On the other hand, WhatsApp pauses the video streams of the call when the user minimizes the app or switches to another app.
According to a recent announcement, iPhone users can see a floating Picture-in-Picture (PiP) with a minimized application window with the help of WhatsApp’s new feature. The iOS Picture-in-Picture support will allow users to multitask while on a video call without pausing the audiovisual.
The new update will include support for captions when you send documents. You can also write long subjects and descriptions for group chats. The spokesperson for WhatsApp told the media that the app will let iOS users create avatars as stickers and their display or profile pictures.
Meta announced Picture-in-Picture (PiP) support for video calls on iOS or Apple devices. The company first made it available to beta users, but now all iPhones with iOS 12.0 or later will access the new feature. The PiP support will be compatible with WhatsApp version 23.3.77, letting you multitask during a video call by minimizing the app.
Apple’s Support for PiP
WhatsApp has included PiP support for video calls made on iOS devices in 2023. However, Apple had already added PiP mode in 2020 while launching iOS 14. Google also offered the same support in 2017 when it released Android 8 – Android Oreo.
Third-party Android apps also received PiP support faster than their iOS counterparts. YouTube on iOS devices could finally minimize videos to a floating window by the second half of last year.
iOS users can update the WhatsApp app to use lengthier subjects or descriptions for group conversations. These improvements came out after the company announced the update for the Android version of WhatsApp earlier this week. It also unveiled the app’s ability to share 100 photos or videos simultaneously. However, the updated feature is not yet a part of the latest iOS devices.
WhatsApp said after Android users, iOS users could use avatars to generate stickers and their profile pictures. The company first unveiled the rollout of the new feature with the available backup for 36 customizable stickers established out of users’ avatars in December last year.
The outlets reveal that the new feature allows users to open up other apps while they are on WhatsApp calls without disturbance. The app will reduce the video call to an insignificant window, which sits atop the app you open, similar to picture-in-picture mode. Users can look up information, read relevant books, or play a game during a video call.
