Meta will reportedly offer the blue check verification for its social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. The verification feature will be valid for profiles, whereas pages will fill out the verification form. The reports on Meta’s possible act come after Twitter introduced blue verification checks to mark a buyable item.
Elon Musk’s chaotic leadership approach on social media has left some broader impacts as more companies also considered downsizings in the wake of Musk reducing 70% of Twitter employees while keeping the app functioning. Now like Twitter, Meta is seemingly thinking to charge for blue checkmarks on its platforms.
The Twitter Blue approach is a paid verification, though it is not overly popular on the platform. The feature led to utter chaos on social media for a while; however, Meta seems like considering the same Twitter Blue approach to make users pay for verification on Instagram and Facebook. Some online news websites have posted screenshots from an alleged Meta help center page. They say Meta plans to bring a Verified subscription more like Twitter Blue, allowing users to get a verification badge for their Facebook and Instagram profiles.
Verification Badges
According to the help center page, Meta Verified blue check will be redeemable for profiles at first. The Pages on both social media platforms will continue to work with the existing channel, where public figures, creators, and global brands get verification badges after filling out the relevant form.
The link to Meta Verified subscription eligibility criteria within the same page takes the user to a broken page. It might be because the page is inaccessible in their region or not set up in the first place. Meta Verified subscription hasn’t been out yet, whereas the company may be in the initial phase of preparation for it.
It is not the first indication highlighting Meta’s plans for paid verification badges for its social media platforms. Earlier in February, Alessandro Paluzzi – reverse engineer and developer, shared a few references in Instagram’s code with the digital media. The individual owns a record of pointing out features before they launch on Meta-owned Instagram.
No Official AnnouncementÂ
The codebase indication of a paid blue badge for Instagram and Facebook refers to a subscription service that could earn users a blue verification badge. There is neither confirmation nor denial about the project from Meta yet, though it seems, at least on the surface, that the company has plans to offer checkmarks as another paid option.
Despite all speculations and reports spread around the World Wide Web, Meta has not officially announced anything about its paid verification badges for Facebook and Instagram. The unitability of any official hints about the new update has led to very little at the hand of the media beyond what it has already shared with the readers. It is also vague if Meta will add any other perks to its Verified subscription apart from the blue tick. Likewise, no news about the subscription cost is available anywhere.
