Since it was first introduced in 2020, the Nord lineup by OnePlus has only grown stronger. The company has now expanded its range of budget-friendly devices with the Nord N300 5G that boasts a MediaTek chipset and a rather simple design.
Design and build
Similar to its sibling Nord N20, the new addition comes with a slim profile, which makes the Nord N300 easy to hold in your hand. The back has a slight matt texture, which ensures that it does not slip. Even though it weighs 190g, which might be considered a bit on the heavy side, it certainly does not feel so because it is quite well-balanced.
This could also be due to the plastic back and frame of the phone, which gives a good feeling and does not make it seem like a budget phone. The Midnight jade is the only color available, which is essentially a fancy name for black. There is a small camera bump on the back of the phone, which is not immediately noticeable.
Screen and speakers
There is a 6.5-inch LCD HD+ display and the Nord N300 also has a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes the navigation a lot smoother. The display is good, but obviously not the same as an AMOLED display. There are also dual speakers to be found, which sound quite good.
Specs and performance
The MediaTekDimensity810 chip is used to power the Nord N300, which comes with a Mali-G57 MU2 GPU and an 8-core GPU. There is also 4GB RAM and while all of these do get the job done, you will notice a slight lag at one point or the other.
The Dimensity 810 chip that is added in the Nord N300 not only offers 5G support, but there is also Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3.
Camera and video
There is a two-camera setup on the back of the Nord N300 5G, with a main lens of 48Mp and a depth lens of 2Mp. You can take some very good photos with the main lens, particularly when the light is good. Even in low light, the pictures are decent enough. There is a dedicated Night mode that you can use for taking pictures in less light.
As far as video is concerned, the Nord N300 is able to shoot 1080p videos at 30fps and the video quality is also good. There is a selfie camera of 16MP on the front, but this one does not deliver much.
Battery life and charging
There is a huge 5,000mAh battery that you will find in the Nord N300 that will last you the whole day. There is also a 33W SUPERVOOC fast charger that gives you a 26% charge in just 15 minutes and 50% in twice that.
The Verdict
The Nord N300 5G runs Android 12 and on top is Oxygen 12. This has refreshed the design language and looks great. The phone does not feel cheap, even though it is a budget phone and the battery life is also a huge plus.
