Spotify has announced a new Artificial Intelligence feature, DJ, allowing users to personalize the music listening experience. The company launched the new feature ahead of its upcoming occasion – Stream On, wherein it will unveil a reshaped home feed with other updates.
The new DJ feature will have a curated selection of music with AI-powered oral commentary about the songs and artists in a stunningly realistic voice. The music app says it will put an AI-powered DJ in users’ pockets.
According to Spotify, the idea is for the company to know users well, enabling the DJ to pick the most suitable music track when you tap the button.
DJ- The OpenAI-Powered FeatureÂ
The feature has a broader potential to make Spotify a passive experience for moments when you feel like dictating app what to play next or fumble around with its platform to find a playlist of your choice.
As of the latest launch, the AI-powered feature is in beta testing. It is only available in English for users with Spotify Premium subscriptions in the United States and Canada in the first place.
Personalization technology has helped Spotify to drive the market. It launched the Discover Weekly flagship playlist in 2015, leading to immediate success.
It then included many other playlists to the unique preferences of the end-users, such as Blend, Daily Mixes, and others with specific activities like working out with other things.
Spotify has become a game-change with its personalized yearly review and Spotify Wrapped, which its rivals have also copycatted.

The new AI-powered feature DJ is a blend of two technologies: Generative AI with Open AI technology and an AI voice from Sonantic acquisition. It is worth mentioning that AI voice is Spotify’s existing personalization tech. While the company has a business association with OpenAI, it still does not refer to the terms as a partnership.
Spotify gave its music experts, editors, data curators, and scriptwriters access to the Generative AI technology of OpenAI to scale their insight about music genres and artists. The technology helps them create culturally relevant and accurate commentary pieces at scale.
Spotify says the DJ feature will keep listeners engaged, presenting them with a personalized music stream, including old favorites and new tracks. The company will continue to refresh the stream as users listen. They will also enjoy relevant commentary followed by their chosen music track.
If the DJ feature misses something you want to hear, the app allows you to tap the button to move to a diverse genre, mood, or artist. The more you use the newest feature, the more accurate suggestions you will get. The music streaming app allows you to access the DJ feature. It will redirect you to the Music Feed on the Home Page of its Android or iOS-based app, where you can hit Play on the DJ card to initiate. It will begin by playing a music lineup and short commentary.
