YouTube is going to have changes in its office as Susan Wojcicki, the CEO of the company, has resigned from her position. After Wojcicki’s resignation, Neal Mohan, the chief product officer at YouTube, will take charge as the CEO of the company.
She expressed her views about the decision through a blog post, saying she wanted to begin a new phase focusing on her family, health, and some personal plans she was passionate about at all times.
Ms. Wojcicki said it was the right time for her to enter the new phase. She believes she could do it because the Google-owned video platform has an excellent leadership team in place. Ms. Wojcicki would keep working in the short term at YouTube to support the new leadership with the transition.
Ms. Wojcicki is the latest high-profile tech executive to resign from a long-standing role in the recent time. In 2021, Jeff Bezos, the former CEO of Amazon, stepped down from his leadership role. Facebook had to give farewell to its Sheryl Sandberg, who stepped down last year, whereas Parag Agrawal left Twitter in 2022, reacting to the shake-up initiated by Elon Musk.
New Leadership at YouTube
According to Ms. Wojcicki’s blog post, she was content with the new CEO’s performance. She praised his efforts to launch YouTube television and YouTube Shorts, Music, and Premium. Sundar Pichai, the Chief executive of Alphabet – Google’s parent company, invited Ms. Wojcicki to accept an advisory role across Alphabet and Google.
According to reports, Ms. Wojcicki confirmed that she would take on the position at the tech company. She believes the opportunity would let her call on her numerous experiences over the years to provide counseling and guidance at Google and other Alphabet companies.
Prestige
Ms. Wojcicki has old connections with Larry Page and Sergey Brin – Google’s founders. She is one of the first twenty employees at the company – ranked at number sixteen. The former YouTube CEO was the company’s employee for about twenty-five years. She got involved with Google in 1998 when these individuals opened a shop in her house’s garage in Silicon Valley and became the first marketing manager at the company in 1999.
The former chief executive has faced public criticism over YouTube’s handling of content moderation, ongoing concerns about child privacy, and the spreading of false information during her tenure at the platform. According to global fact-checking organizations, YouTube fails to take enough measures to prevent the spread of misinformation on the online video platform.
Ms. Wojcicki joined YouTube in 2014. It was when the online video platform had obtained the milestone of one billion active users worldwide. Currently, it has 2.5 billion users across the world, including numerous YouTube creators known as YouTubers who have carved profitable careers through their individual channels.
In 2022, Mr. Beast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, was the highest-earning YouTuber with excellent content. He made $54 million in gross revenue last year- significantly more than any YouTuber in YouTube’s history.
