TikTok reportedly has begun looking to boost its audience growth with innovative initiatives after it saw the number of views in the U.S. stall in 2022. The social media platform will work on a paywall feature development alongside testing a renovated creator fund.
According to a report, TikTok has already had its hands on a paywalled video feature that would let video creators charge users the desired amount to access a clip. Although the information about how the new feature would work is vague, the app’s creator would be able to earn directly from their most-liked videos.
It is not the first time a social media platform has come up with the idea of paying users for their exclusive content. Instagram has already begun allowing creators to exchange subscriber-only material.
The Paywall FeatureÂ
TikTok’s new feature would enable the app to reward creators in a more improved way than those already in the practice by other social media platforms. These creators drive its factor as their viral videos have proven their significance for the app’s growth and fame.
In addition to the paywall feature, the Chinese social media app would test an overhauled creator fund, aiming to pay the creators higher than its previous version launched in 2020. Originally, the fund of a $1b pool of money in more than three years will reward creators for their popular content.
On the other hand, the app’s creators have criticized the fund, complaining about a low payout. Many analysts anticipate the revamped creator fund by TikTok would be a welcoming addition to the platform after it faced considerable criticism for the current version.
The Revamped FundÂ
TikTok might also use the refurbished fund to reward the app’s creators observed for posting longer videos and benefiting from its expanded clip length from 3 minutes to ten minutes. Moreover, the app has plans to increase the follower requirements for eligibility for the fund, from 10,000 followers to 100,000.
Reports confirm that TikTok has initiated the testing process for the revamped creator fund in Brazil and France. It might launch the renovated fund in the United States next month. However, TikTok has not addressed the claims regarding the paywall video feature and revamped creator fund, though it continues to explore new ways to make a rewarding experience for creators on the app.
A spokesperson for TikTok says the company is all set to explore new ideas to create a respected and rewarding experience for the app’s creator community.  Anyone can become a creator on TikTok, whereas everyone can take pleasure from the entertainment brought by the inspiring creators. The company aims to keep innovating the experience to let people express their feelings, discover their community, and get rewarded for their innovation and creativity.
Given the revamped offering by TikTok’s biggest competitors, the latest features would come in handy in increasing the company’s current payout for creators. In February, YouTube started ad revenue sharing with Shorts creators as it has gained a great idea of how to share ad revenue so far, giving Shorts a place in the competition.
