TikTok has reportedly initiated testing a new method for creators to get paid on the platform. Creating and posting lengthier video clips is one of the requirements. The company announced the Creativity Program – the new fund and has started its beta testing process for Brazil, France, and the US.Â
The video-hosting company plans to use the tactics to improve the lagging growth of the platform in the United States. The new fund program is accessible on an invite-only basis for now, though the company will expand it by including all eligible users in the coming months.Â
Eligibility Requirements for the New Creator FundÂ
Users above 18 years, video views benchmarks, and hit followers will be eligible for the programs. They need to make high-quality and original videos of more than one minute.
The requirement for longer videos may come as a surprising element for some creators. TikTok convinced other social media companies to accept short-form videos seriously. However, the company has signaled in several ways that long content, such as live streams, will have progressive significance for the platform advancing. Â
The background of the launch is a complaint that the creators have forwarded to the company. They say they could not make enough money from the original creator fund. TikTik believes the new program will help boost creators’ creativity, higher revenue potential, and open more exciting & real-world opportunities.Â
The information about the scope of the new fund program is vague as the company did not provide any data, such as the scope, number of participants, and other elements.Â
Zachary Kizer, the spokesperson at TikTok, says the company could not share how much money it will need to invest into the new program at this time. Kizer specifies that ad revenue sharing failed to make money. It calculated the payouts through qualified views and RPM that fluctuate according to metrics, including audience reign and video engagements.
According to TikTok, creators who have worked with the original fund will get the choice to move to the Creativity Program Beta, though the switch will be unreversible. Â
Creator Funds
TikTok announced the original creator fund in 2020 and kept $1 billion to pay to participants over three years. In 2022, Meta announced spending $1 billion on creators, whereas YouTube offers a substantial revenue-sharing program to content creators creating Shorts. It is worth mentioning that TikTok’s decision for longer videos has happened gradually. Besides expanding tools for presenting and monetizing Livestream, it has steadily increased the video sizes that users can easily make.Â
TikTok is also attentive to live stream events, such as trivia contests and live shopping where viewers can shop for their favorite products from live streams.Â
Analysts believe that shopping through live streams could be a lucrative way to make money if TikTik can bring it to the United States. On the other hand, the Chinese company confirmed last year that it had started the testing process for in-app shopping in the United States after being limited to other nations.
