There are plenty of reasons for buying a hybrid and the Dell XPS 13 9315 2-in-1 is one option that you can explore. This detachable from the US IT giant makes a good impression, as a sleek folio case has been blended with recycled aluminum and the inside comprises of a powerful Intel processor.
Design and build
The gunmetal folio case and the CNC-milled aluminum edges makes the convertible XPS 13 look really good and the two portions are quite robust. The bottom of the panel has a solid magnetic connection through which the tablet and the folio case attach. Once you have done that, the magnetic folio is able to prop up the tablet into the position of a laptop at different angles.
There is a power button on the top that comes with a volume rocker and a built-in fingerprint reader. It also boasts excellent cameras, with a 5Mp one for video calls and an 11Mp one for landscapes. There is also Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E. The XPS 13 2-in-1 weighs 1.3 kg and its thickness is about 17mm, which makes it a tad heavier and thicker than its rivals.
Keyboard and trackpad
Just like the XPS 13 Plus, the keyboard boasts a ‘zero lattice’ design, which can be disarming initially, but you get used to it very quickly. It has responsive and fast buttons and it is significantly better than its rivals in this area.
It also comes with a decent backlight and the trackpad is also comfortable and large, making it easy to use. The buttons are also quite responsive.
Screen and speakers
The XPS 13 2-in-1 has an IPS display with a 3:2 panel boasting a resolution of 2880 x 1920, which means you can get lots of height and detail. Gorilla Glass Victus has been used from edge-to-edge for protecting the panel. The touchscreen works with the XPS stylus that comes with 4,096 pressure points and is good for creative work. It also attaches to the top of the screen magnetically, which makes it easy to store. But, the Stylus is not included, which means it has to be purchased separately.
The screen shows bold colors that come with nuance and great depth and they also have great accuracy. The hybrid has two 2W speakers and these may sound a bit tinny at some point, but are pretty decent.
Specs and performance
There are two variants of the XPS 13 2-in-1, which use the Intel Core i5-1230U and Core i7-1250U processors. The former has a memory of 8GB, while the latter has 16GB, but they are using DDR4 RAM, which is a downside. There will be no trouble when you are running office apps, opening a ton of browser tabs or streaming music or media. The XPS is also capable of handling basic video and photo editing tools, but doing more will be difficult as the detachable will start chugging.
The Verdict
The XPS 13 2-in-1 comes with mediocre battery life and its pricing shows that the device is a mid-market option that can be good for everyday tasks.
