DoorDash, the popular restaurant delivery service, has announced it supports cash payments for online orders. It will allow customers to pay through cash for orders placed online. However, DoorDash has rolled out a new feature to DoorDash Drive known as the white-label delivery solution for restaurants.
The white-label solution allows restaurant owners to ensure delivery from their official websites or apps using DoorDash’s courier network. According to the company, pizza shops and Chinese restaurants have become the adopters of the new feature during the early tests. Factually, around 20 percent of users ordered pizzas in the United States using the DoorDash Drive solutions to pay cash for their online orders.
Pay with Cash Support
DoorDash offers pay-with-cash support, catering to customers who do not feel comfortable sharing their debit card information for online payment and want to pay through cash. It is also handy for those underbanked customers who have difficulty accessing online payment options.
While digital payments and e-commerce are on the rise, a sizable continues to prefer paying through cash, wherever possible. Some U.S.-based tech giants and retailers, including Walmart, Amazon, and PayPal, also offered ways to purchase online and pay with cash, targeting a similar market in recent years.
Most drivers also prefer cash payment because it allows them to go home with tips in their pockets rather than waiting for a bank transfer. Some customers also prefer tipping the drivers in the case as they know their drivers can keep the total tip amount. Given drivers cannot always keep the whole tip, DoorDash enables them to enjoy the total tip amount as they do not need to involve in any tip-sharing process with the delivery company or the restaurant.
According to DoorDash, Dashers need to begin accepting the Cash on Delivery option, but they can also opt for it at any time without impacting their ratings. Almost 75 percent of U.S.-based dashers opt for cash orders, and around 500,000 completed a minimum of one delivery with cash payment over the last year, even before the public debut of DoorDash.
On the other hand, the company says it does not plan to enable the cash delivery option in its primary app, though it is interested in encouraging cash payment. While DoorDash Drive does not take commissions on any order as it just charges a flat per-order delivery fee, the Cash on Delivery option for orders may increase per-order cost. The company also iterates on feedback from restaurant partners, specifically pizza chains.
DoorDash Improves the Services
DoorDash focuses on better accuracy and delivery time among the improvements. It ensures Dashers get pizza-specific hot bags for their orders. The company says it works to enhance communication tools for drivers and operators and offers restaurants a way to update customers on their meal orders through text messages.
The latest update comprises many other features on its primary apps to benefit DoorDash customers and drivers. These include safety features, bundled orders, and the possibility to return packages. Apps will also have many other things, including an expanded partnership with Starbucks.
