There are a lot of expectations associated with gaming laptops. Not only do they have to be portable, they also need to deliver good performance. This is precisely what the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i hopes to accomplish and it is also on the affordable side. You can choose the configurations of the system as per your preference, as it is available with an Intel Core i7-13700HX or an Intel Core i9-13900HX, along with an RTX 4070, 4080 and 4090.
Design and features
An aluminum all-black machine, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i does not look like a gaming monster in an obvious way. It is boxier and thicker than an everyday ultrabook, but that is because of its cooling system and for accommodating a bigger battery. A significant portion of the back half of the base is for the cooling system.
The middle of the laptop’s back edge has a strip of ports and this makes desk setups easy. There are two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, USB-C and Ethernet ports, all at the rear, as is the power adapter plug. On the right is where you plug in the headset jack and both sides of the laptop also has two additional USB-A ports. The left side also has a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port.
The screen is beautiful, even if it is not an OLED, but is 16 inch in size and offers a resolution of 2560×1600 with a 250Hz refresh rate support. There is matte coating on the panel, which removes the glare. The speakers are also quite decent for gaming purposes, as they offer good quality.
Usability
The Pro 7i offers great usability. Typing on the keyboard is smooth and the keyboard also has a number pad. There are full size arrow keys, but the trackpad is a bit off-center, which means it may take time to get used to it.
The webcam is another feature where Lenovo has been attentive, as it boasts an upgraded 1080p camera with a wide viewing angle. You can also disable the camera with a hardware switch given on the right side.
Other details
With the Intel Core i9-13900HX and the Nvidia RTX 4080 mobile graphics processor, the Pro 7i shakes things up in a very exciting manner. The laptop does not sweat at all when you are doing everyday tasks. As compared to its competitor, it fares quite well, given that it is not in the same price range, such as the Razer Blade 16. Even in terms of games, the Pro 7i delivers great performance because it is able to do a good job in terms of controlling heat.
There is lots of venting for pumping out the heat and the fans are not too loud either. But, the battery life is a downside because gaming burns it up really quick. It can give you a little over four hours of battery, which may not seem like much.
The Verdict
The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is a compact machine for a gaming laptop. It is a stunning option, given its upper-tier hardware and good performance.
