Meta Announces New Features for Facebook Reels, Aiming to Expand Maximum Video Length to 1 minute 30 Seconds.
Earlier, Facebook users could make Reels with a length of 60 seconds. Meta now announces to increase the video length by adding another 30 seconds. It means you can benefit from Facebook’s support for longer Reels of 90 seconds. You can also use many creative tools to make your video more exciting and entertaining.
Meta rolled out the changes several months after it revealed support for Reels of up to 90 seconds on Instagram. Many tech analytics believe the social media giant followed TikTok’s jump in YouTube with video clips of up to 10 minutes long instead of three minutes.
An extra 30 seconds on 1-minute Reels somehow rails against the short element of a short-form video. However, all modern apps seem to follow the trend of increasing the length of their short-form offerings to maximize user engagement and usage.
Facebook users will also find many creative tools, such as a new template feature that will let them use trending templates to create Reels. Instagram’s new feature emerged last year and has mesmerized many users who use it to create Reels through the similar structure they watched a moment ago. These templates look slightly identical to TikTok’s templating choice.
It is worth mentioning that Meta rolled out these features for Instagram Reels seven months back. The company has now released them on Facebook to facilitate users with Reels creation. Probably, Meta made these new Reels options on Instagram first to see how users make the most out of it before rolling them over to Facebook.
Facebook users started observing Reels in their news feeds in 2022. It was a move that drew users’ attention as Meta’s significant response to a threat raised by TikTok. While Facebook and Instream’s parent company initially took Reels as an option to compete with TikTok using an Instagram feature, Meta soon understood that it could mount a more effective counterpunch if it also took the social media app into the mix, allowing for cross-posting between Facebook and Instagram.
Innovative Creative Tools
Moreover, Facebook Reels will have an innovative feature known as Grooves that can automatically align and sync the movement in the videos to the beats of the music using visual beat technology. Since TikTok uses its syncing video to music as a defining characteristic, it should not be surprising to see Meta introducing it to Facebook Reels following its rolled out for Instagram Reels in 2022.
According to Meta, Reels is among the fastest expanding formats of the platform. It has the potential to grow across Instagram and Facebook since its launch in 2022. The company has also noted an increasing trend of resharing these Reels on Instagram and Facebook in the last six months. Meta will keep bringing new Reels features to simplify the option for content creators who want to get discovered on social media platforms. The social media giant has also integrated Memories into the collection alongside an innovative option to Share as a Reel from users’ Memories prompt.
