Even though they might have a weird name, there is no denying that the Nothing Ear (2) are rather unique wireless earbuds and they offer excellent sound quality at a very reasonable price point. What do they have to offer? Let’s take a look:
Design and build
In terms of appearances, the Nothing Ear (2) are not very different from their predecessor at first glance, even though there are some subtle differences in design in terms of the arrangement of the components. But, the fact that they look identical is not a bad thing because they have a very nice appearance.
The white bud and stem design has been inspired from the Apple AirPods, but the transparent sides with black contrast add a nice pop. They come with controls quite similar to AirPodsand the left and right buds have a white and red dot, respectively, for differentiating them.
As compared to the Ear (1), the Ear (2) have a smaller case and see-through plastic has been used for making it. Nothing has paid attention to the aesthetics of the case, while most rivals are usually just focused on making it functional.
As far as the buds are concerned, they are comfortable to wear and quite light at 4.5 grams each and they come with small, medium and large tips. Similar to the AirPods, the tips tend to be more oval rather than circle.
Sound quality
The sound quality of the Ear (2) buds is truly impressive. The bass is good and rock and rap tracks are also easy on the ears. You will not have complaints with most genres. The step up in quality at this price point is certainly appealing. The Nothing X companion app also adds more value, which has a five-minute long hearing test for identifying the frequencies you are able to hear a beep above the static noise.
The software will then automatically boost the audio files in frequencies you may have issues with. This allows you to enjoy clarity and richness in music and this can also be customized. You will have a solid wireless connection thanks to Bluetooth 5.3.
Noise cancellation and other features
The excellent active noise cancelling (ANC) is also another perk that Nothing Ear (2) offer. You are given a good level of control through the app, as there are low, mid, high and adaptive ANC settings and you can also personalize it. A transparency mode is also given in which you remain aware of your surroundings, even with the buds on.
It is also possible to connect the buds to two devices simultaneously, thanks to Multipoint tech, which is certainly a rare feature. Nothing has also added clear voice tech, which works quite well.
Battery life
A full earbud charge will give you six hours of battery life with ANC turned off and 4 hours with ANC. The case will offer you playback of 36 hours when it is fully charged. The box comes with a USB-C cable, but no adapter, but there is also support for Qi wireless charging.
The Verdict
Considering that they are priced at just $149, the Nothing Ear (2) certainly have some impressive features and are quite attractive in terms of appearance and sound quality, even if battery is not that impressive.
