Five years ago, the Razer Raiju, a PlayStation-centric controller, had been introduced. Now, Razer has decided to come forward with the Wolverine V2 Pro, a controller focused on tournaments to give players a competitive advantage. Even though it is one of the costliest controllers at the disposal of PlayStation players, there are a handful of features that explain the price tag.
Design and features
First off, even though the PlayStation controller is officially licensed, Razer has opted to use an offset-style analog stick layout for the Wolverine V2 Pro. This will require a bit of adjustment for regular PlayStation players, but those who have used the Nintendo or Xbox Pro controller will not have any issues.
The ability to play wirelessly is one of the biggest changes that have been introduced with the Wolverine V2 Pro, but it also has a wired mode. This gives a great deal more flexibility, as players can sit back and enjoy without being tethered to a console. You can use this for PC as well as PlayStation 5 and swapping between connectivity options and platforms is extremely easy.
The Mecha-Tactile Action Buttons are one of the top features that Razer controllers offer and they have been included in the Wolverine V2 Pro. The face buttons are quite different as compared to standard controllers because they boast an incredibly satisfying and tactile click when they are pressed. Plus, you can press these buttons very quickly, which can make a big difference in your gaming experience.
The D-Pad that Razer has introduced also uses technology similar to the unique face buttons. It boasts a circular raised shape, which enable you to input your commands quickly. HyperTriggertechnology is another feature you will find, which can be used for unlocking full range of motion.
The Buttons
Other than the physical buttons, Razer has also added two interchangeable magnetic thumbstick caps, both of which are responsive and snappy. There are also six customizable buttons, which include two on the top and four on the rear. The back button’s placement is a tad uncomfortable and it takes time for players to get used to it.
If you want to use the Wolverine V2 Pro controller for both tournament and casual play, the fact that it does not have a built-in rumble could be a downside. But, there are other features that have been included, such as a headphone jack, built-in microphone, Touchpad and also the Share and Option buttons.
Battery life
When you are using the 2.4GHz wireless mode, you will find that the Wolverine V2 Pro is capable of delivering a very generous battery life of about 28 hours. This is significantly higher than what most of the other controllers can offer.
Software
For customizing the controller, you will have to download the companion app introduced for both Android and iOS and you can use it for configuring four different profiles. You can switch between them with a physical button given on the face of the controller.
The Verdict
The Wolverine V2 Pro certainly improves on its predecessor in various ways, but it comes with a price tag of $250, which might seem hefty to some.
