Reddit has recently launched a new update to its platform, comprising a TikTok-style feature that can separate text and video content into a unique feed. The split-view feeds, known as Read & Watch, will let users move from exploring text-based posts to video clips based on their mood.
According to a Reddit representative, the company has begun testing the Read & Watch feeds that will come out in the coming weeks. These feeds include user-subscribed posts and recommendations for now. The company aims to simplify the discovery experience for Reddit users, allowing them to pick the feeds they want to read or see.
The product office at Reddit, Pali Bhat, says the company focuses on its core tenets alongside its new and existing users. Reddit will greet them, offering enhanced experiences and choices to discover innovative and exciting content and communities in clean spaces.
An official statement released by Pali Bhat read that Reddit will release new updates to its video player to allow users to chat while watching a video. The company unveiled its inborn video platform in 2017.
Users can expect many new updates to Reddit, including a reorganized interface to reduce clutter, launch storefront advancement, chat updates, and lots more. The new search capability is among the most recently launched features, where users can look for comments in a post on the desktop of Android and iOS devices.
TikTok-Like Feature on Reddit
Reddit has combined videos in its platform in several ways, trying to compete with TikTok. The company obtained a short-form video platform that works similarly to Dubsmash, a Tik-Tok-style video streaming platform to integrate its video-making tools into Reddit. The company rolled out a TikTok-like video feed on its iOS app.
Moreover, Reddit confirmed its efforts to explore the idea of revealing more user-generated videos to its Internet discussion forums in addition to a feature that would let users respond to other audiovisual content.
Many companies like Spotify, SoundCloud, and Amazon have added video content to their apps. YouTube and Instagram unveiled TikTok-like features: Shorts and Reels, whereas Snapchat launched Spotlight a while ago.
Search Comment Within a Reddit Post
Reddit brought a new feature, allowing you to search comments within a post on iOS and Android desktops. The latest update lets you search comments in threads without expanding them or using Ctrl-F on a post page. You can quickly find your required information on a specific post.
In 2022, Reddit enabled users to search comments throughout the platform with a tab named ‘Comments’ in the search bar, though users still could not search for post comments. The company decided to roll out the new change following user feedback.
According to Reddit, it made many advancements to its search functionality over the last few months. The company revealed text search within pictures, allowing users to search for their chosen memes having text within them. Reddit’s subreddit search procedure has improved the exterior with more related subreddits for most searches. The platform also improvised autocomplete to let communities search for their required information easily.
