Snapchat has recently launched its AI-enabled chatbot known as My AI bot. The company will make it a part of paid Snapchat Plus subscription in the initial phase. The latest version of OpenAI ChatGPT will power the Snapchat bot. Evan Spiegel, the CEO of the social media platform, says Snapchat has initiated the beginning phase of its generative AI plans. The company is sure about the popularity of the AI chatbot and believes it will progressively become an essential component of daily life for more individuals.
My AI – Snapchat’s Chatbot
Snap will pin its AI-powered chatbot to Snapchat’s tab above the conversations with your friends and contacts. Although it will initially make the bot available for Snapchat Plus subscribers for a $3.99 monthly fee, the target is to make it available to its 70 million monthly users.
According to Spiegel, Snaps wants to let you talk to AI besides taking your family and friends daily. My AI is something the company feels well-positioned to carry out as a messaging service. While My AI is like a fast and mobile-friend version of OpenAI ChatGPT in Snapchat, Snap’s AI version answers with more restrictions.
Snap’s workers have adequate training to let it adhere to the company’s trust and safety guidelines rather than giving strange responses, including violence, swearing, political-driven topics, or sexually explicit content.
The company plans to roll out My AI, letting more people use it and reporting inappropriate responses. When users try the OpenAI ChatGPT, Snap does not feel to explain the phenomenon of ChatGPT. It is a testimony to opening the AI building the consumer software in the past.
Unlike OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Snap’s My AI does not show guardrails or tips to interact as it unlocks a blank chat page, making you wait for a chat to begin. Although ChatGPT has taken the world by storm as it has become one of the most effective productivity tools, Snap has treated generative Artificial Intelligence like a celebrity.
The profile page of My AI has a similar appearance and features to other Snapchat users’ profiles, with its unfamiliar Bitmoji. According to the design suggestions, My AI aims to become a friend on Snapchat for users to chill out rather than a search engine.
The Big Idea
As mentioned earlier, Snaps aims to enable users to talk to AI regularly as they stay in touch with their family and friends. That difference could help Snap save some pain. Microsoft Bing’s implementation of OpenAI shows the LLMs underpin these chatbots to confidently give wrong answers that may be problematic in the search.
