TikTok has rolled out a new feature to let eligible creators put newly-created content behind a paywall. Known as ‘Series’, it is a new monetization feature that adds a new technique for content creators to make money from their videos on the app.
The series is available to selected creators who can join the opening using the application in the coming weeks. It allows eligible creators to put premium videos behind a paywall that the video hosting platform offers viewers a fee for access.
A ‘Series’ can add up to eighty video clips, each up to twenty minutes. Content creators can make standard videos up to ten minutes long. Accordingly, the expanded content length for the Series feature can give TikTok creators more flexibility and time while recording things, such as beauty tutorials, comedy sketches, educational content, and cooking demos. The new update has marked a new way incurred by TikTok further into YouTube’s territory.
Content creators can choose the amount for ‘Series’ that best shows the value of their unique content. They can purchase the content for access through a creator’s profile or direct in-video links.
According to a representative for the company, the creators can keep a hundred percent of their revenue after appropriate fees for a limited time. TikTok will take a cut in the future, though it has not said how much the deductions might be.
Series – a New Feature to Make Money
While TikTok’s Series aims to help content creators make money, it does not allow users to use it to share adult content. Creators need to abide by the app’s Community Guidelines for Series content.
TikTok revealed in a blog post that the range of entertaining content, varying from shortcuts to must-know spreadsheets to the latest recipes or the most effective exercises, has become a vital part of people’s lives.
The company has introduced Series as a money-making strategy for creators by sharing their talents, creativity, and stories as premium content and strengthening their relationship with the TikTok community.
Way to Better Reward
Tech analysts say TikTok’s recent launch is not a surprise because many digital media channels reported about the company’s working on the paywall feature in February. The video hosting app can use to reward content creators in a more enhanced way, acknowledging them as the driving factor of TikTok.
While TikTok believes these content creators have helped drive the social media platform toward popularity and growth through their viral videos, paying creators for unique content is not new. It is worth mentioning that TikTok had already launched the beta version of the Creativity Program, a revamped creator fund, before rolling out the new feature.
The program aims to unlock new opportunities for creators and make better earnings. Like Series, the Creativity Program is unavailable for all creators as it works on an an-invite basis to select creators. TikTok developed the new program after getting creators’ feedback on earning options available on the platform.
