TikTok has decided to help teenagers manage their screen time with the latest improvements. The video streaming platform will set the regular screen time cap at one hour for users below the age of 18 years following the findings of the Digital Wellbeing Lab.
The latest advancements will be handy for youngsters in controlling their non-stop screen time. TikTok has also added parental control to the app as it always determinedly works to offer a positive digital experience. Users will find the new personalized options in their best interest to constructively express their thoughts and views.
The video hosting service encourages users to restrict their screen time to enhance a positive user experience. The Digital Wellbeing Lab’s findings made TikTok realize it is time to set a cap for daily screen time of up to 60 minutes for users below 18 years.
It means users willing to enjoy the video hosting app for more than an hour will enter a passcode to do so. The new Family Pairing feature has three creative elements. TikTok introduced the following elements to guarantee user safety and strengthen families.
Customized Limit for Daily Screen Time
TikTok allows parents and caregivers to customize the cap for daily screen time for their teens. They can set a diverse time limit for their children according to family travel, holidays, and school schedules.
Screen-time DashboardÂ
The screen-time dashboard will display the summary of the time a user spends on the app. It will also show the number of times the users opened TikTok in that specific time duration. TikTok will let parents check out a breakdown of the overall time their teenagers spent using the app over 24 hours.
Mute NotificationsÂ
Parents can use this option to set up a schedule and mute notifications for their families. The new update will let children aged 13-15 not get notified after 9 pm. They can disable the push notification after 10:00 pm for accounts used by teens aged 16-17.
The video streaming services have also rolled out a sleep reminder, which enables users to better decide on the offline time in the dark hours. It will display a pop-up at the chosen time to remind TikTok users to log off from the app. TikTok educates parents and children about the new tools. It has partnered with content experts and creators from the tech industry. The in-app support is handy in educating everyone about the Family Pairing feature and newly revealed options. It creates a safer user experience by letting parents teach their teenagers about the careful and responsible usage of the digital environment.
According to the short-video app, its improved parental controls enhanced policy transparency and established the Safety Centre to give parents peace of mind for their teen users. TikTok formed beneficial alliances with several safety organizations to meet the requirements of families. The eligible accounts will receive the default time limit in the coming weeks. However, teenagers can continue using TikTok beyond the one-hour limit after entering a promoted passcode. It requires users to extend the time.
