If you are looking for a gaming phone, the Asus ROG line has plenty of options to offer and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is the latest one that has been added to the mix. This monster of a device boasts cooling features, bleeding-edge screen tech and software add-ons that will appeal to every gamer.
Design and build
The look of the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate might not appeal to everyone, but you get used to it. It is available in both black and white and feels good, as you do not have to worry about fingerprints because the back is matt rather than glossy. The symmetrical design on the rear has triple cameras, along with two additions of a back flap and a small LED strip of a screen. The former is called the AeroActive Portal, which is a cooling hole that will open automatically when you attach the AeroActive Cooler 7 fan, which is included with the device.
It might not look good, but it certainly works and feels complete. The ROG Phone 7 has great build quality with the ROG branding on the back and a few blue accents on the SIM tray, a camera lens and the power button. It has rounded sounds and there are two USB-C ports you can find.
Screen and speakers
As you would want in a gaming phone, the screen of the ROG Phone 7 is flat and it comes with a thick bezel on the top and bottom, which means the display does not have a cutout or a notch. The phone has a 6.78in AMOLED screen that has a variable refresh rate of 165Hz. The screen is also HDR10+ certified and offers 100 nits of brightness, which might not be the brightest option available, but offers an immersive experience.
The Gorilla Glass Victus display also comes with a coating that has been placed for reducing friction. The back has a PMOLED color strip screen for aesthetics and you have the option of turning it off. There are two front-facing speakers and they are undoubtedly some of the best you will find because they have a full booming sound.
Specs and performance
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset was the most powerful one out there at the time of the phone’s launch and it has been incorporated in the device. It comes with 512 GB of storage, Qualcomm Adreno 740 GPU and 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, which means the phone is as smooth as butter. You will enjoy flawless performance and a Game Genie software is also included, which is a great addition.
Camera and battery
Since it is a gaming phone, the cameras are not really exceptional. The ROG Phone 7 has a main sensor of 50Mp, which is Sony IMX766, capable of taking some great shots. There is no optical zoom lens. The other cameras are a 13Mp ultra-wide and 8Mp macro camera. The selfie camera is 32Mp.
As for the battery, it is two separate 3000mAh cells, which puts it at 6000mAh, which goes down fast if you are playing all day. Otherwise, the phone can easily last for two days on a single charge.
The Verdict
The Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is precisely what it claims to be i.e. the ultimate gaming phone, with an excellent display, superb specs and a big battery.
