The Zenbook line was introduced by Asus back in 2011 and it has become one of the most renowned names in the category of light and thin laptops. The tradition has continued with the Zenbook14 Flip more than a decade later and the 1.5kg chassis offers a ton of premium features.
Design, build and ports
When it comes to the design of the Zenbook 14 Flip, Asus has opted to play it safe, but it is still quite unique. This is mostly because of its back, which has a unique angular pattern and a matt finish. While it looks great, it also accumulates dirt and fingerprint smudges. The futuristic design is quite appealing and the device still qualifies as an ultrabook.
It is a tad heavier than other 14-inch laptops and is about 15.9mm thick. It feels robust and premium due to the weight and it is also quite durable, given that it is a convertible. Even though its hinges are relatively small, it does not come off as flimsy. Since the chassis is not razor thin, it means there are lots of ports.
The USB-C ports offer support for Thunderbolt 4 for charging, fast data transfer and for connecting to an external display. There is also an HDMI 2.1 port, a USB-A port and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Keyboard, trackpad and webcam
Since it is a 14-inch device, there is plenty of room for a full keyboard and the Zenbook 14 Flip does offer a good one. The keys are responsive and clickyand there are three levels of backlighting available. But, it does not have a fingerprint sensor. It does have a virtual number pad, which has been built into the trackpad.
The physical trackpad has a large surface area and it does a good job. As far as the webcam is concerned, this is a bit disappointing because Asus has stuck to 720p quality, which is not very impressive.
Screen and speakers
The Zenbook 14 Flip truly excels when it comes to the display. It is a2880x1800 OLED touchscreen, which means it has the 16:10 aspect ratio. It has a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes it quite fluid. It delivers deep blacks and vibrant and rich colors. You can enjoy plenty of detail and it is quite immersive.
As far as the audio is concerned, it comes off as quite punchy, even though the stereo speakers are on the bottom. They have decent bass and an impressive amount of detail.
Specs and performance
The 14 Flip has the latest 13th-gen CPUs from Intel and has 8 or 16GB of DDR5 RAM, which allows the device to deliver decent performance. It is capable of handling almost any task you throw at it, especially when you combine it with the 90Hz refresh rate.
Battery
The good thing about the Zenbook 14 Flip is that it has an above-average battery life that even the most demanding users will appreciate. A single charge can last an entire working day. The two USB-C ports on the laptop offer fast charging.
The Verdict
The Zenbook 14 Flip is a premium convertible device and even though it does have a steeper price tag, it does have an impressive performance to go with it.
