Garmin’s Vivomove series is aimed at providing the company’s smartwatch and core fitness tracking features in a sophisticated manner and this is precisely what the Vivomove Trend delivers. The look is of an analogue watch, but it has a digital screen that offers you the best of both worlds.
Design and build
One of the top reasons that people should give preference to the Vivomove Trend over other sporty smartwatches is because of its design. With this device, you get a 40mm polymer case that comes with a stainless steel bezel and gives you the freedom to choose from four different strap and case combinations. There is a 20mm silicon strap, which is removable with a pin mechanism, and this makes it incredibly easy for you to swap straps.
You will not find any physical buttons on the Vivomove Trend, which means the liquid crystal touchscreen display that has a 254 x 346 resolution needs to be tapped and prodded. The analogue watch face disappears when you interact with the screen. The back of the watch is where you will find the optical sensor setup for tracking blood oxygen and heart rate. You can also take it for a swim due to its 5ATM waterproof rating.
Health and fitness tracking
Garmin has not changed anything here, as you will find the Elevate heart rate monitor in the Vivomove Trend, along with a barometric altimeter and a Pulse Ox blood saturation monitor. It has a connected GPS instead of a built-in one, so you have to rely on your phone to get more detailed data about your outdoor rides and runs.
The watch counts your daily steps, give you a nudge if you do not move enough. It is also a great option for sleep tracking and it also offers respiration and blood oxygen data. Your heart rate is also monitored constantly and some breathing exercises are also offered for helping you de-stress. Women-specific features like pregnancy and menstrual cycle tracking is also available. The Vivomove Trend also has some sport tracking modes, but it is not one to be used for serious training.
Garmin has also made an effort to add safety features like Incident Detection and LiveTrackand this is certainly a good addition.
Smartwatch features
The Garmin Vivomove Trend also offers you some smartwatch functionality. You can use it for checking phone notifications for third party and native apps. If you pair it with your Android device, you can even send preset responses. As long as the watch is connected to your phone, you can use dedicated screens for checking weather and important calendar appointments. It also boasts find my watch and phone modes, which are useful if you misplace your devices. Contactless payment support is also included.
Battery life
As opposed to other sports watches from Garmin, the Vivomove Trend cannot survive for weeks without being charged, but it can last for a full five days. The best part about it is that it offers wireless charging support, which is not something other Garmin or Vivomove watches offer.
The Verdict
The Vivomove Trend offers some of the best features that Garmin has introduced in a very attractive design and it is an excellent hybrid smartwatch to invest in.
