Snapchat has explained the impact its in-app Artificial Intelligence experience may have from location sharing through a blog post. The company decided to open up as it received many 1-star reviews over its artificial intelligence-powered chatbot feature My AI.
The newly launched My AI chatbot might take a little more time to notice its users who have stopped sharing their location in the app than others. It might mean that the AI-powered chatbot recalls your location details for some time, though it gives it the feel of accessing the information you restrict from your side.
The social media company received many complaints about its new AI-powered chatbot named My AI, which it launched to all users worldwide last week. Users pointed out the placement used to add the new feature and the knowledge My AI has, such as user location.
The New AI-Powered Feature
According to Snap, the new AI-powered feature will access some details that users share with Snapchat, including their location. Since the company previously announced knowing the user’s age because of the enhanced protection for younger protection.
My AI also takes this aspect into notice. The app also retains the messages shared with My AI unless you delete them from the platform. When you launch MY AI, the app sends you a notification at the beginning of the chat, informing you that it will share some details with the AI-powered chatbot to form customized suggestions.
The blog post shared by Snap says it is significant to identify that My AI collects no new detail from Snapchat users regarding their location. The chatbot only has access to the locations of those users who have already allowed Snapchat to do so. It also helps them share their current and live location on Snap Map.
User Location Information
Snap’s AI-powered chatbot utilizes location information to give users personalized recommendations about numerous things, such as shops and restaurants in the nearby vicinity. The My AI support page also specifies that Snapchat. Users can see the app sharing city-level locations and generalized distance between them and places for suggestions. While Snapchat does not activate the location-sharing feature as you open the app, using Snap map enables the permission.
The American Instant Messaging app allows you to turn off the location-sharing permission from Settings on Android and iOS devices if you do not want it to use your location. Turning off your location data will disable the My AI’s ability to provide personalized recommendations based on the user’s location.
The blog post noted that if Snapchat users do not share their location with the app, My AI will take a little time to take effect. It could also confuse some Snapchatters as it may seem as if the Artificial Intelligence knew their location, even if they had turned off the permission.
However, users did not only complain about the location sharing in the AI-powered chatbot, which led to its negative or 1-star reviews because they were also upset because of the inappropriate placement of the AI tool to the top of the Chat tab.
