There is no doubt that Xiaomi has come up with some of the best flagship and budget phones, but this does not mean that the company is not doing anything in the mid-range market. While the Redmi brand has been there for a quite a while, Xiaomi has taken things to the next level with the Note 12 Pro+. It has decided to add some premium features in a very low price tag and this makes it quite an impressive device. Let’s take a look.
Design and build
The premium and sleek design of the Note 12 Pro+ makes the device seem to have twice the price tag. The sides are plastic, but the front and back are glass. This is surprising on a mid-range set. There is no need to worry about fingerprints because there is matte coating on the back. The back feels grippy and durable and it is the camera module that truly dominates. There is a flash and three lenses and the module is not exactly pretty.
The 12 Pro+ does not have a fingerprint sensor built in the display; it has been built into the power button and it remains effective in unlocking the phone quickly. The device also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is undoubtedly impressive in 2023. The subtle haptic feedback is also outstanding because of an advanced vibration motor.
Screen and speakers
The 12 Pro+ has a large 6.67 inch screen, boasting an OLED panel that has a resolution of 1080×2400. The display is an absolute joy, as it comes with rich, vibrant colors and deep blacks. The 120Hz refresh rate means that navigating your phone is also a breeze. You will have no trouble in transitions, or scrolling.
Holding the phone is no issue as the display is curved from the edges and the bezels are also quite slim. There are stereo speakers incorporated and they can get quite loud.
Specs and performance
When it comes to Redmi devices, Xiaomi prefers to use MediaTek chips and the Note 12 Pro+ has a Dimensity1080, which is a 5G chip that has been designed specifically for mid-range devices. The device delivers excellent performance, even with just 8GB of RAM, as the 12GB RAM model is only available in China.
The phone is easy to keep up with almost all tasks and the chip appears to be quite capable. It is only pushed to the limit in the most demanding scenarios, but those are very rare. In fact, the 12 Pro+ delivers some of the best performance you can see in a mid-range phone.
Camera and video
The Note 12 Pro+ is one of the few phones that come with a 200Mp main lens and it performs quite well, although nothing very exceptional. The shots it produces are quite detailed and true to life. The main camera also handles low light well. There is an 8Mp ultrawide lens and also a 2Mp macro lens, both delivering good performance.
As for video, it can capture about 4K 30fps, but you can also get lots of details with the default 1080p at 30fps.
The Verdict
When you add an impressive battery life and a very reasonable price tag, the Note 12 Pro+ can function as a great mid-range device.
