Geoffrey Hinton, AI’s godfather, warns every one of the risks associated with the increasing development in the relevant field. The 75-year man has left Google and announced his resignation from the company in a statement given to the New York Times. Besides highlighting the scary risks of AI-powered chatbots, Hinton told the media he regretted his job at Google. He says artificial intelligence-powered chatbots are not more intelligent than humans, though they could become so soon.
The AI’s godfather also admitted that his age was one of the primary reasons for leaving the tech giant, as he is 75, and it is time to retire. Dr. Geoffrey Hinton has played a vital role in the pioneering research around neural networks & deep learning. The study has resulted in the invention of Artificial Intelligence-powered systems, including ChatGPT.
Neural network systems learn and process data similar to the human brain. They allow artificial intelligence to acquire knowledge through experience just like a person does; that is deep learning. The British-Canadian computer scientist and cognitive psychologist says AI-powered chatbots can overhaul the data level a human brain holds.
According to Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, what everyone sees is things such as GPT-4 conceals a person in the level of general knowledge it has. It does it using a long way. While it is not up to the mark regarding logic, it already does some simple reasoning. The speed of progress makes us expect things to get better fast but get worried about it simultaneously.
Artificial Intelligence Storm
Dr. Hinton specified “bad actors” who could use Artificial Intelligence technology to attempt nasty things. Responding to a question by the media, he said it refers to a worst-case or a nightmare scenario. It is quite possible that some bad actors give AI-powered robots the ability to make their sub-goals.
The former scientist at Google warned, saying it might make some sub-goals, such as someone wanting to get more power. Dr. Hinton says he has come to the point that the intelligence kind we’ve developed is diverse from the aptitude we own.
Humans are biological systems, and Artificial Intelligence is a digital system. Digital systems let you have several copies of similar weights, which presents the same model of the realm. These copies lean separately and share their understanding instantly.
On the other hand, Advanced Research & Invention Agency UK’s chairman, Matt Clifford, told the media that Dr. Geoffrey Hinton’s statement highlights the rate at which Artificial Intelligence capabilities have begun accelerating. It refers to a massive upside from AI technology, though people must invest heavily and urgently in Artificial Intelligence control and safety.
Dr. Hinton has recently joined an increasing number of tech experts who have expressed concerns about artificial intelligence regarding its developing speed and going direct. Earlier in March, many people from the tech & AI industries, including Elon Musk, signed an open letter. It required a pause on every development, which is more advanced than the latest version of the Artificial Intelligence chatbot known as ChatGPT. Therefore, scientists and tech developers could design and implement robust safety measures.
