The computer scientist feels lost over his life’s exertion spent at work. The AI godfather realized the pace of usefulness getting evolved.
Prof Bengio’s views after AI experts revealed that technology could destroy humanity. Prof Bengio also joined demands for Artificial Intelligence regulation with other colleagues and voiced concerns about the direction and speed of its development. He does not think governments should grant militaries AI powers.
In a media interview, Prof Bengio revealed his life’s work gave him direction and a sense of identity, but it became vague later. Technology is challenging for people in the AI sector. It could make individuals feel lost, though they have to continue and discuss, engage, and encourage others to think with them.
Voiced AI-related Concerns
The Canadian scientist recently signed some statements to urge caution regarding the potential risks of Artificial Technology. Some industry and education experts have already warned the rapid pace of AI development could lead to the use of malicious AI tech to cause someone harms actively.
Elon Musk has also raised his AI-related concerns, saying he does not think Artificial Intelligence could destroy humanity, though it might cause humans to be under strict control. The Twitter owner, in a Wall Street Journal event, said the likelihood of AI defeating humanity is trivial.
A fellow AI godfather, Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, voiced AI-related concerns and signed the same warnings as Professor Yoshua Bengio. He quit Google recently, revealing he was apologetic for his job. Prof Bengio says all tech companies involved in AI product developments should acquire the necessary registration, whereas governments should track and audit tech activities and audit them. According to computer scientists, it is the minimum thing we can do for any sector, such as making vehicles, planes, or pharmaceuticals. The tech industry requires people close to AI systems to get a certification. While computer scientists do not usually get ethical training, it should be in place.
Fellow AI Pioneers Second Prof Bengio
Prof. Yann LeCun is the third in the trio of AI godfathers who won a prestigious Turning Award for their pioneering contribution to Artificial Intelligence. He says all computer scientists do not believe that AI will be the reason behind the destruction of humans. Prof LeCun highlights the overblown apocalyptic warnings for Artificial Intelligence, whereas others say many other imminent issues require adequate solutions.
A Huggingface research scientist, Dr. Sasha Luccioni, says we should focus on problems like artificial intelligence bias, predictive regulating and monitoring, and increased misinformation by AI-powered chatbots as they concrete troubles. She says the tech industry should focus on such matters instead of arguing about the hypothetical risks, including AI will cause the downfall of humanity. Many examples of AI offering benefits to society, and nobody can deny them.
