Google makes it more convenient for users to play podcasts directly from Apple while searching for them in the Search engine. The company winded down a feature letting users play podcasts from search results earlier this year. Google had taken the digital media in the loop, revealing that it aims to gradually move to a new design that would provide podcast-related information and links on other platforms from its search results.
On the other hand, Apple says when you use generic terms like movie podcasts or kids’ podcasts to search for podcasts through their iPhone, you can listen to them on Apple. The tech giant has made the new feature available to US-based Google Search users and will release it to more markets in the upcoming months.
The Rollout of the New Feature
Google and Apple will decide whether or not they should roll out the direct podcast stream as they assess its initial performance. Some tech analysts performed the test to see its performance. While the testing process, they entered keywords like comedy podcasts and found a box at the top of the search results showcasing several popular titles.
Besides filtering things like TV, the company allows you to use filter buttons to view results relevant to those podcasts available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, or Apple Podcasts. Testing on the iPhone via Google mobile search discovered the Google Podcasts filter option off.
Tapping an individual show will take you to a detail page where you will find descriptions and posts about the program and check the list of the latest music episode. You can also learn about how frequently the program releases or the average duration of a podcast. The web page also displays options like Listen on Apple, allowing users to launch the show in the Podcast app by tapping the relevant button.
The BeneficiaryÂ
Google’s announcement to stream podcasts directly from its search results will benefit many music streaming platforms, including Apple. Apparently, it seems the tech giant offers similar functionality for Spotify too. Users willing to view Google Podcasts will tap another button named All Listening Options, as it will show more choices.
According to Spotify, its app is already offering the feature for over a year. Apple says the functionality described above is new for its Podcasts app. It often means some Google search users will see the new functionality before others. According to Apple, the latest update indicates music lovers do not want to limit their podcast listening experience to in-live; instead, they want to use the music stream app of their choice.
In February 2023, Google announced it was ending the feature that enabled users to play podcasts directly through its Search result in the wake of offering podcast recommendations. It officially announced the podcast feature in 2019, which surfaced podcasts when a user put a query for them. However, many creators found Google removing the podcast carousels from its search results.
