Huawei had rolled out the Huawei P60 Pro in China in March, but it has finally launched in Europe and the UK, which means it is the only smartphone to get an international release. It does not support Google Play Store, or any other Google Services, but if you are a smartphone camera buff, you will like the device.
Design and build
There are two colors available in the Huawei P60 Pro, which are Rococo Pearl and Black. The former boasts a marble-like pattern, which is unique in every unit and it has a beautiful sheen that does not catch fingerprint smudges. It feels and looks like a premium, high-end phone that comes with a curved shape, making it easy to use and hold. The device weighs just 200g, which means it is quite lightweight and at 8.3mm, it is quite slim.
The left-hand side has the camera module, with the design dominated by the main sensor, which is a change from the Huawei P50 Pro. You will find one dual-SIM slot and one USB-C port. No headphone jack is available, but this is a given considering the phone’s price point. A clear case is also included in the box for extra protection.
Screen and speakers
The P60 Pro boasts a 6.67inch curved glass display that has a 2720 x 1220 resolution and the quality is similar to the iPhone 14 Pro. The screen is great, as you will see bright and bold colors. There is also a fingerprint sensor built under the display and face recognition is also available. The single selfie camera only supports 2D face unlock, even though the predecessor had 3D face scanning.
Kunlun glass has been used for the phone, which is Huawei’s own alternative to the Corning Gorilla Glass. The refresh rate is adaptive and can fluctuate between 1Hz and 120Hz, which helps you balance battery life with great graphics. The P60 Pro is also a good phone for responsive and fast gaming because it comes with a 300Hz touch-sampling rate. The bottom and top of the phone have stereo speakers, which are quite punchy and loud.
Specs and performance
A Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor powers the Huawei P60 Pro, with 8GB and 12GB RAM options available with 256GB and 512GB storage, respectively. The processor might not be the latest, but it is a powerful chip nonetheless. You can use it for multitasking quite easily. However, there is no 5G support, given the tensions between Huawei and the US trade industry.
Cameras
The P60 Pro camera is its main feature and Huawei has done a great job. The triple camera comprises of a 48Mp main lens, which has 10 different steps between f/1.4 and f/4.0. The results are similar to a DSLR camera. There is also a 13Mp ultra-wide lens and another exciting addition is the 48Mp telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and f/2.1 aperture. The camera does most of the work when you want to take beautiful shots and there are various modes that come in handy. The front camera is also 13Mp and boasts a wide-angle mode, so group selfies can also be taken.
The Verdict
Huawei has added a good battery to the P60 Pro and its camera technology makes it one of the most impressive devices, especially when you consider the stunning durable design and the slick performance. But, the lack of Google services could be a concern.
