There is an entire range of budget smartphones that Nokia has produced, but the Nokia G22 comes with a rather unique selling point as opposed to the rest. The phone’s build has been designed with the aim of repairability, which means that you will be able to replace its display, battery as well as other parts yourself and not have to go to a specialist shop. Not only does this help in saving money and time, it also makes the phone more environment friendly. But, how does the phone perform? Let’s take a look.
Design and build
There are two colors in which the Nokia G22 is available; Lagoon Blue and Meteor Grey. The back is recycled plastic and has a shine to it, but it does pick up fingerprints quickly. At 195g, the phone is extremely light, but not the slimmest one. It has a power button on the side that has a built-in fingerprint sensor. It works consistently, but you can also use a passcode, or face recognition.
The Nokia G22 also comes with a headphone jack and two physical SIM card can also be used due to the dual SIM slot. You can also use one SIM card and a microSD card for expanding the phone’s storage. A build kit is not included, nor are the parts of the phone given, but you can easily get it from the market.
Screen and speakers
To stick to the budget range, there have been some sacrifices in the display. There is a 6.5inch 720p LCD panel, which means you can use the Nokia G22 for browsing the web, but photos and videos cannot reach their full potential. It boasts a 90Hz refresh rate, which can be set to adaptive, or to 60Hz.
There is one speaker on the bottom that comes with OZO playback, which is a tech built by Nokia and aimed at creating spatial audio. The audio is certainly loud for a phone that does not have stereo speakers, but it does have a tinny feel to it.
Specs and performance
The Nokia G22 runs on the Unisoc T606, which is the same processor as the previous model. Therefore, the performance lags a bit in a number of tasks, particularly when you are booting it up. It works fine for social media use and browsing. There is 128GB of storage and 4GM RAM and you can get 2TB of storage with the microSD card slot.
Cameras
There is a triple camera setup in the Nokia G22, led by the 50Mp main lens that has a f/1.8 aperture, a 2Mp depth camera and also a 2Mp macro camera. But, there is no ultrawide lens available like its predecessor. The results are a mixed bag, as the camera performs quite well in bright daylight and the AI enhancing also helps. But, dimmer conditions means the photos will be a bit blurry and the night mode is nothing special. The 8Mp selfie camera comes with an HDR mode and gives decent results.
The Verdict
The fact that you can fix the phone at home makes the Nokia G22 a unique addition to the market, but its processor leaves something to be desired.
