The Android tablet revival is happening in full swing. Not long ago, it was just Samsung that was making Android tablets, but now there are decent options from other manufacturers including Oppo, Lenovo, Nokia and Xiaomi. The latest company that has now joined the party is OnePlus, which may not have reinvented the wheel, but it certainly offers a good experience for the money.
Design and build
Similar to other modern tablets, the OnePlus Pad is also a combination of aluminum and glass, but it still manages to distinguish itself. This is mostly because the rear has a Halo Green finish, which shimmers, but does not pick up any dirt, or fingerprint smudges. It is a 11.6in tablet, which is not light at 552g, but the aluminum back makes it easy to grip and hold for long periods of time.
There is also a circular rear camera module on the back, which has just one lens, but is still a nod to the company’s smartphones. Even though it is priced for the mid-range, it feels and looks like a flagship tablet. It does not have expandable storage, or support mobile data. Other than the usual volume and power buttons on the side, it has a pogo connector to use the optional keyboard and there are also four speakers.
USB-C is given for data transfer and charging, but there is no 3.5mm audio jack. The only disappointment is the lack of fingerprint sensor. Face unlock is available and it is very fast and reliable. There is also a selfie camera above the screen.
Screen and speakers
The best feature of the OnePlus Pad is its display. With an aspect ratio of 7:5, the 11.6 inch device boasts a 2800×2000 LCD display. Due to its excellent detail, the Pad is great for casual reading. The vivid and superb colors make everything come alive, whether you are watching a movie, or checking out pictures on social media. The absence of an OLED display does not have a negative impact on the viewing experience at all.
The display also has a capable of having a refresh rate of 144Hz, so everything feels fluid and slick. There is also LTPO tech, which means the refresh rate can adjust itself to conserve battery life. As mentioned earlier, there are four speakers, with two on each side and the audio is quite punchy. You will be able to enjoy a full-bodied and rich sound.
Specs and performance
The Dimensity 9000 chipset is used to power the OnePlus Pad, which is one of the most capable chipsets for mobile devices. Combined with 8GB of RAM, the tablet delivers excellent performance. You can do pretty much everything easily, including email, web browsing, social media and even watch videos. The excellent performance actually extends to gaming as well, which makes the OnePlus Pad one of the most capable Android tablets out there.
The Verdict
Even though OnePlus has entered the tablet game late, it has done an exceptional job with the OnePlus Pad that delivers great performance, along with an impressive battery life.
