As it comes with some excellent features, the entry-level QLED model from Samsung is a tempting option for gamers and those looking for a smart TV. It ticks a lot of boxes, which could make it an excellent choice. Let’s check the details.
Design and features
Even though the Mini LED backlight is quite demanding, the design of the QN85C Neo Slim still manages to be quite premium, as it is just 28mm deep. The TV will go with most AV furniture options because it comes with a central pedestal. There are four HDMIs on the back, all offering 4K 120Hz capabilities. You can easily connect a PlayStation 5 and Xbox because the HDMI 3 comes with eARC support. This TV is as future-proof as you can get.
There is also an Ethernet connection, an optical digital output, a CI card slot, two USB ports and you can get wireless coverage with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There are two remote controls, one is a standard zapper, while the other is a slim model. Both come with dedicated buttons for services like Disney+, Netflix, Samsung TV Plus and Prime Video.
In terms of audio, there is a six channel iteration of the OTS (Object Tracking Sound) audio system from Samsung. The usability is quite decent and there are plenty of streaming TV services. Menus are on the left and there are Media playback, Game and Ambient modes available. A dedicated Game Hub is an interesting addition, as it boasts cloud gaming services like Twitch, Utomikand Xbox.
Picture quality
If you like rich and bright pictures, the QN85C delivers just that. It has excellent peak HDR brightness, a high average picture level as well as good color depth. It is also compatible with HDR10+ and Samsung has added its Neural Quantum Processor 4K, which is AI-enhanced. It can optimize the images on the screen according to the content. There are different modes to choose from, such as Filmmaker, Movie, Dynamic, Eco and Standard mode.
The screen is also great for gaming, particularly 4K 120Hz games. There are two Game options given, but the basic one gives you a better response.
Sound quality
The OTS sound system built-in is rather sophisticated and it comes with height drivers that can be found on the top right and left. The high and wide soundstage comes from the dual woofers, so you do not need a soundbar. Volume is also impressive, due to the 60W amplification.
Price and Availability
You can find the Samsung QN85C available in four different screen sizes, which are 55inch, 65inch, 75inch and 85inch and they are priced at $1,499, $1,999, $2,699 and $3,799, respectively.
The Verdict
The QN85C is a 4K smart TV that delivers high performance, thanks to the powerful set of features that have been added to it. It excels in terms of gaming and offers great sound and picture quality. The absence of Dolby Vision could be a bit of a disappointment, but it serves as a good all-rounder for the most part.
