Many fans had been concerned how Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order 2 would ever be able to live up to its outstanding predecessor Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. But, with more open, bigger maps and an extensive list of combat options, greater abilities to play with and a ton of collectable stuff, the game seems to have captured the essence in a really good way.
The positives
One of the best things about the new game is that there is absolutely no need for you to go back and play Fallen Order before you start with the sequel. This is because it begins with Cal Kestiskeeping most of the upgrade and powers that he had previously acquired. You do not have to re-learn how to use Force push or double-jump because your powers are gone because of some amnesia gimmick.
The only thing that you have to do is earn the Force and life bar extensions and your healing canisters. Otherwise, it is the same Cal who he was five years earlier. Things get off to a very exciting start and you will find yourself in the midst of pushing off Storm Troopers of ledges and engaging in movement tricks, such as swinging, climbing, wall-running and sliding.
The stars
While it is undoubtedly satisfying to move around, the real stars are the lightsabers. Dueling has been kicked up by several notches in the sequel, as there are five different fighting stances. Each of these have been animated rather brilliantly, which produce some of the fiercest and flashiest melee battles you will see in Star Wars.
You do not need to be very good at getting the timing right when it comes to dodges, parries and strikes in fights. Even without it, you can look quite smooth and spectacular as you make your way through the enemies. Some of the skill animations can make you feel quite powerful and it is undoubtedly a thrill.
The story
As far as the story of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order 2 is concerned, it gets the job done in terms of getting you from one scene to the next, each of which involves some exciting action. Things tart with Cal trying to find a map that leads to a lost treasure planet. This is to keep up with the idea of the character being like Nathan Drake and it gives plenty of excuses for him to visit abandoned and old puzzle chambers.
This is where you are required to use the Force, your wits and a wide range of gadgetry to solve them. Another great thing about this game is that there is not a lot of time pressure for you to move onto the next objective. Therefore, you can take detours to engage in some side quests like discovering what happened in a droid factory, or looking into the rumors shared by locals.
The Verdict
Other than the story and the added abilities, the characters are also well fleshed out and you will enjoy the characters. Overall, the Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order 2 is an epic battle and you will certainly have fun playing it.
