Meta has recently unveiled a new Edit Message feature for WhatsApp. While the company did not disclose the name of the new tool, it uploaded a video clip telling users would be able to edit their text messages on the instant messaging app.
WhatsApp will receive another significant update to the platform after the announcement of the ability to lock some personal conversations on its iOS and Android versions. The company used its official Twitter handle to confirm that WhatsApp will soon have the new Edit Message for everyone. The post does not mention the exact title or name of the new feature, but it has a video that shows WhatsApp users could soon edit their text.
Apart from the announcement, Meta’s official video does not show how the Edit Message feature will function. On the other hand, some digital media sites like WABetaInfo reported some details related to the option as it finds the beta versions of WhatsApp allow users to edit their messages.
According to the abovementioned report, WhatsApp will give users only fifteen minutes to edit any text message. Once you run short of the time limit, it will not allow you to change anything. The Edit Message feature saves you from the embarrassment of sending the wrong text by accident.
WhatsApp messages often get auto-corrected due to the mobile keyboard, though it may change the overall meaning of a text message. The instant messaging app already allows you to delete a message, though you will have to draft the message all over again. The new update lets users fix a text message to save time and energy.
How Edit Message Works on WhatsApp
While the official post announcing the launch of Edit Message does not mention how it will work, WhatsApp’s beta version reveals the story. According to the reports, when you send a text message to the recipient on WhatsApp, the app will provide you a 15-minute window to edit or undo it. You will need to long-press the message you desire to edit.
The long-press on the message will pop up the Edit Message option, enabling you to click on it to make changes to your text messages. After you edit a particular text message, WhatsApp will open a new window so that you can update the text.
The Availability of the Edit Message Feature
The Edit Message is one of those awaited WhatsApp features users have always desired, but the company has not particularly mentioned the launch date of the same. Meta says it will soon make the new Edit Message tool available to every WhatsApp user. The social network giant has released the official teaser related to the rollout of the latest update.
As mentioned earlier, some media reports confirmed the availability of the Edit Message feature in iOS and Android-based versions of WhatsApp. Since the instant messaging app has teased the new update, tech analysts expect WhatsApp to make the edit button in the upcoming weeks.
