Last year’s Asus Zenbook hardly had any faults, which meant that the 2023 model had some tall shoes to fill. The good news is that the Asus Zenbook S13 OLED has actually managed to accomplish this goal and it has done so in a body that is 0.15-inch thinner and 0.2 pounds lighter. Moreover, this does not mean that they have made any compromises in terms of hardware. With a price tag of $1,399.99, the device gives you an OLED screen, top specs, an excellent battery and abundant ports.
Design
As soon as you take the Zenbook S13 out of the box, you will immediately notice how light it is. It weighs just 2.2 pounds, which means it is significantly lighter than the latest MacBook Air. As for thickness, it is around 0.43 inches, which makes it very slim. It also looks nice, as it is made up of a standard brushed metallic finish. The lid is covered with ‘plasma ceramic aluminum’, which makes the laptop artistic and unique. Holding the ceramic texture also feels great.
The most important part is that holding the laptop shows just how solid it is. Despite its weight, the Asus Zenbook 13 does not feel flimsy at any point. The display also boasts a 180-degree hinge that allows you to push it all the way back until it is flat.
Screen and connectivity
The highlight of the Zenbook is its 13.3-inch OLED screen that comes with Dolby Vision HDR support built-in. The brightness of the screen will also not give you any trouble, as it is quite appealing. In terms of connectivity, you will find that Asus has not held back. You will find plenty of ports, which include two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, a traditional HDMI port and also a 3.5mm headphone jack. There are also two HarmonKardon speakers built-in that have nothing special to offer.
The microphones and webcam are downright excellent. You will be able to enjoy well-lit and clean video calls via the full-HD camera and there is also an infrared sensor that allows you to log in via your face.
Keyboard and trackpad
Considering the slim design, you would think that Asus would make compromises in terms of keyboard and trackpad, but this is not the case. The Zenbook S13’s keyboard has backlit keys that have plenty of space between them to avoid accidents while typing. There are also dedicated buttons for shutting off the webcam and muting the mic. The touchpad is glass and it is spacious enough that you will not have any issues.
Performance
The latest chip from Intel i.e. the 13th-Gen i7 chip has been used for powering the Asus Zenbook S13. It comes with 1TB of SSD storage and 32GB RAM. The processor is capable of handling everyday workflow without any issues. It runs Windows 11 Home and there are several complimentary subscriptions available.
The Verdict
With the battery lasting for more than nine hours after consistent, regular use, the Asus Zenbook S13 OLED proves to be a compelling product.
