Two years before it announced the first AirPods, Apple purchased Beats. Today, Beats earbuds are quite similar to AirPods and this is a good thing because they have similar features, but cost less. The Beats Studio Buds+ are an excellent alternative to AirPods Pro, as they are true wireless Bluetooth earbuds.
Design and build
The design of the Studio Buds+ is functional and attractive and it does not try to copy the AirPods. Rather than having a long stem, the buds are small and have a tapered edge, which makes them easier to take out of the case. The edge of each bud has the ‘b’ logo where a physical button is also placed. As they weigh just 5g each, you will not notice them in your ears.
You can find them in ivory, black and gold and a translucent version as well. As for the case, it is made up of matt plastic. The box has four eartip sizes, which means you will be able to find a comfortable option easily. They fit snugly in their case and remain in place due to the strong magnet. A USB-C cable is used for charging them.
Sound quality
The most important detail that you need to know about the Studio Buds+ is their sound and you will find that it is truly excellent. Music sounds vibrant and fresh and you will also experience the bassy sounds that Beats is known for. It should be noted that they do not support hi-res music playback, but SBS and AAC codecs are supported over Bluetooth 5.3.
Noise cancelling and smart features
The Buds+ connect very quickly to whatever device you want to pair them with. One of the best things about them is that their smart features work for both iOS and Android, but they lack in-ear detection. This means music will not pause automatically when a bud is removed. They are also compatible with Android’s audio switch, which means they can be simultaneously connected to two Android devices.
They also come with Active noise cancellation (ANC), which is quite good, but it is not as good as that of the AirPods Pro 2. The Studio Buds+ also have a transparency mode, so you do not need to remove them to hear your surroundings. They also support spatial audio playback. As for switching between transparency and noise-cancelling modes, you can use the Beats app on Android, while for iPhone, you can do this via the Control Centre.
Battery life
The Studio Buds+ can last for 36 hours from the fully charged case and buds. With ANC, you get 6 hours of playback and 9 without it and the case 27 more hours with a full charge. Wireless charging is not available, as there is just wired USB-C available.
The Verdict
The good thing about the Studio Buds+ is that both Android and iOS users can go for them and at $169, they are certainly a good choice for anyone who wants true wireless earbuds.
