It may have taken it a while, but Nvidia has finally come up with a graphics card aimed at tackling 1080p gaming. It should be noted that the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti has two different versions available and most of their specifications are similar. In fact, there is just one exception and that’s the VRAM. An 8GB and 16GB version has been introduced, but the latter is not available as yet.
Design and specs
Similar to other RTX 4000 graphics cards from Nvidia, the Ada lovelace architecture is used for the RTX 4060 Ti, which means it boasts third-generation and fourth-generation ray tracing cores and Tensor cores, respectively. There are 34 Streaming Mulitprocessorsand 4,352 is the total CUDA core count, which is less than those of the RTX 3060 Ti that has 4,864 cores.
The 8GB VRAM is combined with 128-bit memory bus, which allows Nvidia to save on power, as 160W is the total graphics power, or TGP. It also helps with the cooling, as the temperature only reaches 68 degree Celsius. This tiny graphics card also comes with the dual-fan design, which means the air is sucked via the bottom and passed out from the top towards the RAM.
Since the card uses very little electricity, it is able to stay cool. But, you are going to need a power adapter because the 16-pin 12VHPWR power connector is used by the RTX 4060 Ti.
Performance
You will find that the RTX 4060 Ti is a graphics card capable of running every game with ray tracing at 1080p. There will be significant improvement in the 1080p performance. But, you will not see a major change in games that do not use ray tracing. Moreover, the 8GB version of the graphics card works fine for 1080p games, but struggles where 1440p games are concerned. The 16GB version might be more appropriate for these games, but it is scheduled for release in July.
DLSS
With every new graphics card introduced by Nvidia, there is an improvement in DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling. The AI Frame Generation is where there has been major improvement and it is helpful in eliminating some of the latency when you are playing. This also allows the graphics card to keep up with the visuals. It is helpful because most graphics card are unable to keep up with the fact that games are getting prettier and this can ruin the experience for people.
Pricing
The Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti comes with a price tag of $399 for the 8GB version, while the 16GB will have a price of $499. The price is acceptable, given that it is offering decent performance, but it certainly does not classify as a budget graphics card because it does not really have much to offer.
The Verdict
To put it simply, the Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti graphics card is decent enough, especially for 1080p gaming. But, it does not really have anything special to make it feel worth an upgrade.
