If you are looking for a gaming laptop, the Asus TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition is going to end up on your list. While performance is certainly relevant, it is also a fact that the A16 has a beautiful 16:10, 16-inch display and an excellent battery life. Add in a robust chassis and a number of other premium features and the A16 can be a great choice for 1080p gamers. Let’s take a closer look.
Design, build and ports
The design of the A16 gaming laptop is a reflection of its affordable pricing, but the device still manages to look good. You will not find any luxurious additions, such as curves or RGB lighting, but there is more emphasis on the basics and this is a smart move. The chassis is made of plastic, which adds durability, and the rigid metal lid is also quite tough.
Versatility is another key feature of A16’s design. The good news is that it is quite portable, unlike most gaming laptops that are too heavy and big to carry comfortable. Weighing 2.2kg, it is relatively lightweight for a gaming laptop and measures 13.88 x 9.92 x 0.87 inches. As for the display, it has ultra-slim bezels and the clever hinge allows you to enjoy the full screen at a good angle.
The modern aesthetic of the A16 is very appealing for a gaming laptop. You will find it in the usual black color, along with a ‘Sandstorm’ color, which is a new addition. Thanks to a matte finish, the lid does not show fingerprint smudges and dirt. Most of the ports are on the left side of the A16. As this is an AMD-powered laptop, there is no Thunderbolt 4 support.
However, there are two USB-A, two USB-C and one HDMI 2.1 port, along with a 3.5mm audio jack, gigabit Ethernet and a Kensington lock connection.
Display, webcam and audio
The A16 boasts a Full HD resolution, so it looks good and also feels polished and slick. The colors are truly great and they do not lack depth. But, the video playback or the fluid gameplay is the best feature of the display. There are not glitches or stutters because of the 165Hz refresh rate. There is a 720p webcam above the display, which is quite decent. The dual speakers also sound balanced and clear, but you will notice the lack of bass. But, there is support for Dolby Atmosand hi-res audio and this can give sound quality a solid boost.
Specs and performance
The AMD Ryzen 7735HS CPU powers the A16 model that has 16 threads and 8 cores and uses the Zen 3+ architecture. It comes with 16GB of DDR5 RAM. Obviously, it can run lightweight apps easily, but even with heavyweight tasks, it remains cool and delivers a strong performance. With the AMD Radeon RX 7600S GPS, the laptop is able to provide an efficient and faster gaming experience.
The Verdict
If you are into 1080p gaming, the A16 is an excellent choice over more expensive laptops, especially when you consider its affordable price and a great battery.
