The multiplayer first-person shooter genre saw some big things happen back in 2010 and one of the top games was undoubtedly Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It seems that BattleBitRemastered’s developers also took notes from the game because they have taken its delightful shootouts, highly destructible and open-ended map design and class balance and combined it in a world similar to Minecraft where everything is made of blocks. The game is still in early access and some fine-tuning can certainly be helpful. But, anyone who enjoys multiplayer chaos, cool gear and huge skirmishes, you are going to find them here.
The plot
Bear in mind that this is not a remastered version of an existing game. Instead, it is more of a joke about the number of times developers started over. This means that you will not find a single-player campaign for introducing this blocky world to you, but there is a shooting range where you can test every gun, class kit and attachment as much as you want. It is a well-designed mode that offers you a good overview of the game’s mechanics, but it is optional and you can directly jump into battle if you want.
The primary mode in BattleBit is named Conquest and it involves two factions competing against each other to capture the control points that are spread across a massive battlefield. You will also find other modes like Frontlines and Rush available that have also been taken out of the Battlefield playbook. Depending on how you prefer battles, you can choose between 32 vs 32, 64 vs 64 or the full-fledged and crazy 127 vs 127-player battles.
The maps
Once you get into a match that has all 254 players, things are going to heat up. There are a total of 19 maps and each of them is diverse in terms of geography, but quite simple in terms of graphics. This means that a lot of things can happen simultaneously, but you do not need to worry about any performance issues. This is great because the buildings are made from destructible blocks and there are plenty of vehicles.
Since there are hundreds of players involved, the chaos is hiked up to the max and it can be a lot of fun, whether you are in a battle that goes horribly wrong, or you are in the right squad. Thanks to the maps and the night mode, the skirmishes offer some exciting opportunities of warfare that have not been seen in other games.
The weapons
The reason that BattleBit Remastered is able to work so well is because this first-person shooter has gotten the ‘shooting’ part right. You will come across an array of primary and secondary weapons that can be customized like the MP 443 pistol and the L86A1 light machine gun and it is easy to make progress and unlock them. Handling them is also easy and they sound good as well. It is fun to use long-range weapons like sniper rifles and DMR and they give punchy feedback. You can also customize your appearance to get bonuses like better damage mitigation and additional ammunition.
The Verdict
BattleBit Remastered offers all the ingredients that made the Battlefield games perfect, which include big maps that have numerous destructible buildings and combat hotspots and no scripted tornadoes.
