Since launching the Pixel Slate tablet back in 2018, Google has now come up with another one, but it has changed directions with the new Pixel tablet. It is not just a regular Android tablet, but also a smart display because it comes with a Charging Speaker Dock. There is no doubt that the Pixel Tablet is very interesting and it can be a great option for the right user.
Design and build
The Pixel Tablet will feel surprisingly premium because Google has opted for a nano-ceramic coating. This gives it a tactile texture, which feels good and the matt finish adds a stylish and clean touch, making it easy to grip. At 8.1mm, the tablet is quite thin and weighing just 439g, it is also quite light. While the bezel around the display is not appealing, it is a lot smaller than other tablets and allows you to hold it without any interference.
The power button has a fingerprint scanner and functions quite well. As for the Speaker Charging Dock, it is available in the same color and its base is covered in fabric, while the rubber part makes it easy to grip. About 30% recycled materials have been used for making the Pixel Tablet, while the aluminum chassis that has been used is 100% recycled. It snaps onto the dock easily with the help of magnets. In addition, the Pixel Tablet is available in two colors, which are Hazel and Porcelain.
Screen and speakers
Google has opted to give its tablet a display of 11inch, which is actually 10.95inch if the rounded corners are considered. The resolution is 2560×1600 and the aspect ratio is 16:10. The tablet also supports USI 2.0 stylus pens and it boasts an anti-smudge coating. Instead of OLED, Google has opted to stick with an LED panel, but no compromises have been made on brightness and it delivers a vibrant and rich viewing experience.
Thanks to the use of LCD, the battery also performs better. As far as audio is concerned, you have two options. The Pixel Tablet has quad-speakers that have two drivers on both sides. There is also a 43.5mm driver that can be found on the docking station. The audio is quite reasonable from the latter, but you can only use it as a speaker when the tablet is docked.
Specs and performance
Google has used its own Tensor G2 chipset for powering the Pixel Tablet and it comes with 8GB of RAM, which makes it more than capable of doing everyday tasks. You have the choice between 128GB and 256GB storage and a microSD card slot is also given for adding more storage. The device comes with Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6 and also an ultra-wideband chip.
As for cameras, there are 8MP cameras on the front and the back. They offer vibrant colors and good lighting and there is also a portrait mode given with the front camera.
The Verdict
The price of the Pixel Tablet starts at $499 and it delivers in terms of build, design and performance.
