The 2023 edition of the Matebook X Pro laptop from Huawei boasts a lightweight and slender design and comes with a 90Hz display like the previous year. But, this time around, the premium device has been upgraded with the 13th-gen Intel chips that are more powerful.
Design and build
This iteration is identical to the MatebookX Pro that was launched last year in terms of physical design. You can get the model for this year in three finishes and color, but the availability will vary for every market. The Ink Blue and White models are made from magnesium alloy due to which the laptop weighs just 1.26kg, which is extremely lightweight.
The Space Grey model is cheaper and is referred to as the ‘Core’ edition, but it is heavier at 1.38kg because it is made from aluminum alloy. Regardless, the laptop is sleek and slim, boasts rounded edges and an angled and narrow chassis. The display has a thin bezel and the ports of the 2023 are same as last year. This means there are four USB-C ports, one headphone jack and two of the ports support Thunderbolt 4.
Keypad, trackpad and webcam
The trackpad and keyboard of the MateBook X Pro for 2023 is unchanged, which means they are great. The former is impeccable, as it is quite huge and offers multi-touch support. As for the latter, it has an edge-to-edge, spacious design and is very responsive. It also comes with adjustable backlighting and is one of the best keyboards in the market.
The trackpad can be used for adjusting volume and brightness, taking screenshots and rewinding or fast-forwarding video. There is also a 720p webcam on the top bezel that can be used for facial recognition for logging in. The power button also has a fingerprint reader built into it for the same purpose.
Screen and speakers
The display of the MateBook X Pro 2023 remains the same as last year, but that’s not a problem because the screen is one of the key strengths. It may not be an OLED, but it has a refresh rate of 90Hz and 3K resolution. The color accuracy is excellent and the brightness will not give you any complaints. Since it is a touchscreen, you enjoy some added convenience. There are six speakers, all of which are up-firing, so there are no issues with the sound.
Specs and performance
The biggest change in the 2023 model is that of the processor, as the Intel 13th-gen Core i7-1360P is used for it and this provides a significant boost in performance. Combined with 12GB of RAM, the machine is excellent for web browsing, day-to-day tasks and even some light creative work like photo editing and Photoshop. As for storage, the laptop offers 1TB and connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
The Verdict
Huawei has come up with another excellent laptop in the form of the MateBook X Pro 2023, but it remains mostly unchanged from the previous year’s model with the exception of the new processor.
