Amazfit has come up with a mini version of its GTR 4 to expand its Mini range of smartwatches. What kind of features does it have? You can find out in the review below.
Design and build
Similar to many classic watches, there is a round design that you will find on the GTR Mini, as it is also in line with the larger GTR 4. Weighing just 36g, it is a lightweight and nice watch and it manages to sit well on your wrist due to its 9.25mm depth. The casing measures about 42.83mm, so even if you have a slim wrist, it will not look too big.
The circumference of the watch has a stainless steel band around it that has a single crown. But, this crown only functions as a button and cannot be used for scrolling purposes. TheBioTracker PPG optical sensor can be found on the back, along with the twin magnetic charging points.
The design is finished off with a silicone strap of about 20mm, which has enough holes to accommodate different wrist sizes. The device is quite good looking and feels more like a dress watch. You can get the GTR Mini in three colors, which include Ocean Blue, Misty Pink and Midnight Black.
Display
The watch has a circular 1.28-inch AMOLED display, which is quite bright and sharp. AmazFit has not used Gorilla Glass, but opted for tempered glass, which is not surprising, considering the price tag. The edge of the display has a sizable bezel around it and it takes time to adjust if you have used rectangular designs before. The watch also has a good touch response and the commands are executed almost immediately.
Software and features
Zepp OS 2.0 is the proprietary software that Amazfit has used for its smartwatches and it comes with the Zepp app that can be downloaded on both iOS and Android devices. The app has all the features that can work on the watch and there is also a minimal app store. The Zepp app gives you over 80 watch faces to choose from, most of which make it look like a traditional watch instead of a smartwatch.
You can find faces offering useful information like steps, heart rate monitoring and other metrics, or you can also edit some of the standard designs. But, you will have to pay for most of the good ones. The GTR mini offers health tracking and there are also built-in apps hat are useful for personal organization and messaging. Spotify and WhatsApp are not available, but AmazFit offers generic music and notification apps.
You can respond to incoming messages from some preset responses, as there is no onscreen keyboard or microphone on the GTR Mini. You will also find a number of other apps, which include various timers, to dos, directions and also a calendar. It is easy to navigate the menus, as you can swipe left and right, or up and down for this purpose.
The Verdict
With an excellent battery life and an affordable price tag, GTR Mini is a good find for those who do not want to spend too much on a smartwatch.
