If you are looking for affordable in-earn headphones, you are likely to come across the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC from Anker and they will certainly take you by surprise. This is because of their affordable price tag and the fact that they give you little to complain about.
Design and build
The Liberty 4 NC follow the standard wireless earbud mold, as you get a large charging case, four pairs of ear tips and two elongated earphones that are relatively large. The charging box has a metallic, matt look that comes off as elegant and you can easily remove the earphones from it. You can find them in about five colors.
The earphones are record-breaking in terms of charging, as they can last for 10 hours, while the charging box can give 50 hours of playtime. The Liberty 4 NC can last for about 4 hours within 10 minutes of charging. They fit in the ear-canal really well, but are not meant for use during sports. You can use the Soundcore app with the earphones, which gives you access to numerous settings, including updates and button assignment.
Sound quality and features
The Liberty 4 NC come with a driver of 11mm, which is considered large for in-ear headphones. This gives them clear sound, as does HearID, which is a feature capable of creating an individual sound profile. The adaptive noise cancelling 2.0 also makes a contribution, which is surprisingly good and this makes for a pleasant experience. It also delivers decent music quality.
The bass is also sufficient and even though there are weaknesses, but they are easily concealed thanks to tuning. However, you will not notice the flaws when you are listening to music, particularly when it is hip-hop, dance and electronic. The Soundcore app also offers 3D surround sound. But, this is only good for use when you are watching films because the music seems to be artificially lifted when you use it. As far as speech intelligibility is concerned, it seems to be quite impressive.
This is due to the fact that the Liberty 4 NC have been equipped very well, as they boast six microphones and this is clear when you use them for making phone calls.
You can understand the voices because they are quite clear. But, you will find that some sounds are very sharp and others are a bit recessed. The sound intelligibility is supposed to be improved with the help of an AI as well, but even after the polish, you will not find a lot of improvement. This is particularly true when you compare it with headphones. Your voice will sound distant, but can be understood quite well and you will be able to hear the other person with clarity.
Overall, the performance seems to be quite convincing, which you would expect from in-ear headphones that have a three-digit price tag or higher.
The Verdict
For typical everyday use, the Liberty 4 NC are very good in-ear earphones that deliver excellent battery and sound performance, but are just not good for sports use.
