It took four years for Beats to bring a new version of its premium over-ear headphones. As compared to the Beats Studio 3 Wireless that were introduced in 2019, the Beats Studio Pro bring improvements in the name, features as well as sound quality, even if they do not bring much change in terms of looks. Even though Apple owns Beats, the new headphones have been designed to cater to both Android and iPhone users.
Design and build
In terms of design, you will not be able to distinguish the Beats Studio Pro from any of the previous headphones. Luckily, they look good, so the absence of design change is not a big problem. The headphones are not completely over the ear, as the cup is a bit too small. Nonetheless, the material is soft and well-cushioned and hugs the edges of your ear. This does make them uncomfortable to wear for longer periods.
The plastic construction of the Studio Pro comes with a nice matt finish, but they do not feel very premium. The headband can be adjusted on either side and it is rubber that will sit against the side of your head. The earcupshave a ‘b’ emblazoned on both sides and the left one can be used as a pause/play physical button. The volume button is also below it. The noise cancelling button is on the right earcupas well as a five-light battery indicator. There is a USB-C port for audio and charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Sound quality
While Beats headphones have a reputation of delivering a bass-heavy sound, this does not seem to be the case for the Studio Pro. They come with a nicely balanced sound that suits every genre. The 40mm drivers work great for all genres, whether hip-hop, pop, rock, or even classical sound.
Noise cancelling and smart features
In addition to sound quality, there is also improvement in active noise cancellation in the Studio Pro, along with transparency modes. You can block most of the sounds with ANC due to the six microphones given for ambient listening. Three of these mics come with transparency mode, so you can talk to people, or hear your surroundings without taking the headphones off.
Apple has not added its H1 and H2 chip to the Studio Pro, so they will not play or pause music when you put them on, or take them off. Moreover, you can only see where the headphones were connected to a device previously and not where they have moved to. But, the ‘Beats Proprietary Platform (gen2)’ enables easy connection to iPhone and Android devices and it works quite seamlessly.
With iPhone, you can use hands-free Siri, while voice assistants on Android can be enabled by pressing the ‘b’ button.
Battery life
When used with ANC, the Beats Studio Pro last for 24 hours, but without it, they can extend to 40. The USB-C cable is included for charging and charging them for 10 minutes can give you battery life of four hours.
The Verdict
The Beats Studio Pro certainly offer better sound than previous models, but their design is uncomfortable and this can make them difficult to use for long periods.
